My husband and I are going to be in the parks next Tues-Thursday. I've been reading reviews and menus for the different eating places. I know we will be eating at the Pacific Wharf at least once because my dh loves the corn chowder in the bread bowl. We haven't really eaten many places in the parks. My problem is the fact that I am a boring eater. I like basic foods or rather I don't like fancy food which really seems to count out all the sit down places. This trip is really kind of a tack on trip from a Vegas weekend trip I am taking with my sister for her reunion so it is really a budget trip. Saying all that, this could be our chance to try something that we wouldn't normally do when we have our kids with us. Are there any recommendations you guys can think of for a couple on a budget one of whom can't handle anything spicy at all? I was thinking about the BBQ Round Up but am worried if the bbq sauce is spicy at all.

I had thought about trying the Carnation Cafe and the baked potato soup but read that it is going to be closing at 2:30 on the days we will be there. I really don't want to fight a usually crowded restaurant on a day it closes early.

My friend is a very basic and picky eater who doesn't really care for spicy food either (I'm not sure if she has a higher spice tolerance than you, but I almost guarantee she likes her food plainer! ;) ). In many cases, she would just as soon have a burger and fries as anything else. She liked the Mexican place at DCA (I believe she really liked the seasonal tamales!) but not so much the one in DL.

If you get a reservation for the Carnation Cafe, it shouldn't be too bad, IMO. It just feels like a busy restaurant once you get in, and it only holds so many people inside no matter how busy it is. (On a weekday, too, I think it'll be tolerable...we went on a Saturday afternoon in mid-October and high-level crowds, and the restaurant, once we got in, was fine.)

My friend was very impressed by the Carnation Cafe...she got the meatloaf stack but she doesn't like her food touching so she requested no gravy and that the items be separate, thinking that they'd be separate on the plate. They actually brought her each item (including the gravy) on its own plate or bowl! :rotfl:

She also really liked the Village Haus in Fantasyland but that was before their menu change. She just got a pizza and was very pleased.

Anyway, a lot of the counter service restaurants now have some more ambitious/interesting offerings but still keep 1 or 2 plain things. On my next trip, I'm actually more excited about trying the Fried Green Tomato sandwich than (potentially) eating at the Blue Bayou! So if your husband likes interesting food and you like plain, counter service could work well.

Have a great trip, whatever you eat!

For plain, boring food, I second the previous poster on Carnation Cafe. You can make a reservation, so you don't have to fight. Plaza Inn is also great...they have wonderful fried chicken and the portions are huge, big enough to share. The baked potatos over by princess fantasy faire are good, too.

Taco Bell MILD sauce is kinda too spicy for me so I think I know what you mean and I LOVED  the BBQ! We do it every time were at DL, hope that helps you out! enjoy you trip...

I agree with Dobie, the Plaza Inn fried chicken plate is great to share. If you're super hungry, like you didn't have breakfast or something, you may want to get a side or dessert to get really full. But if you're just going for satisfied, then just the plate is enough

Another vote for Carnation Cafe. Just make a reservation, and you'll have no trouble.
