This is a great forum-it is set up just like the cruise one I post on. Hoping some Disney folks can help a girl out. Here's the situation:

DH, DD age 5 and I were planning to go to WDW for a weekend as we had free air travel. We chose 9/30-10/2 as that was the only time we could get the flights we wanted. But there are no hotels available on property except for Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boardwalk and Beach Club Villas, Old Key West and Saratoga. For two nights, these are all really expensive. We were trying to do this as economically as possible. I can get the Hilton or DoubleTree Suites at DTD for 99/109 per night. We will be renting a car. Are those hotels okay? Is there something going on in WDW that weekend that is going to make it super busy? We were there last year at this time (last week of Sept, just in time for Hurricane Jeanne) and have also been in mid October and it was not terribly crowded. We wanted to stay on property, but in lieu of that would stay in DTD if those hotels are okay.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the Hilton has disney's Emh - early/late entrey. It is the only non-WDW resort owned resort to have it (okay SOG has it too but it is not private owned)

Doubletree does not.

however I think Doubletree rooms are alot bigger than the Hiltons?

both hotels are okay.

If you want to save some money - about block might be block and half is Cypress Pointe
you can get it on
www.hotelkingdom.com

it is a timeshares and get mostly nice reviews here. tripadvisior has not been as kind - but I trust other Disers more than a review place.

Two other hotels that are extremely close that come to mind are the Raddison Resort Parkway and Buena Vista Suites.

If you check out Mousesavers.com you will see that the Radisson is a recommended hotel. We have stayed here and while the rooms were ok....clean and nice...but nothing spectacular, the pool area was really lovely. It really does rival some of the pools at Disney's resorts. If you use the mousesavers link you can get a preferred rate which is very reasonable.

The other one that I know about is Buena Vista Suites which is practically on property too. I haven't stayed here, but have heard that it was decent. Someone else may have better info.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Happy planning!

have you checked with a TA for availability?

Nothing is showing on the WDW website, except for AKL - as you already know:) - but sometimes travel agents have access to extra inventory that we can't just pull up...??

I'd give someone a quick call in the am...Expedia is showing availability for the Swan/Dolphin:)

HTH!!

We did call our TA and she was astounded that there was nothing available. We were able to switch to the weekend before 9/23-25 and are staying at POFQ. There was plenty of availability for that weekend, so hopefully it won't be too crowded. Thanks everyone for your help!! :earsboy:
