What a nut!!!!!!!!

What is the big deal? I heard about this briefly but I don't know the whole story. He pretends to use a cell phone in the end zone and gets fined $30,000? Isn't that a bit harsh? What is all this fuss about?

legs22 - I am with you. I dont watch football so I am totally in the dark as to what was bad about this. Not saying that he did nothing wrong, just dont understand. Kind of like my 3 year old, I need someone to teach me please. LOL

People and their cell phones drive me batty!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper:

That man needs a life!

Cell phones are the bane of modern society

A few thoughts from those 'in the business'........

Reaction to Joe Horn's TD celebration

Tony Kornheiser, ESPN

"I'd fine him a million dollars. And let him take me to court. What Terrell Owens did [with the Sharpie], that was the first time and it made a mockery of the game. What Joe Horn did makes a complete and utter mockery out of playing football in the National Football League. He should be suspended by the league. I'm sure he won't be suspended, but he should be. He should be suspended because that's stupid. He's a great talent. He's a fine talker, but he should be suspended today by the NFL. And those people who say to me . . . lighten up. Well, it's not just a little bit of fun. It's a calculated thing to embarrass everybody out there. It's nonsense. It's to get him a contract with Nokia, or AT&T, or Sprint or whoever makes those phones. He should be suspended a game by the league. And in fact he should be suspended for a playoff game if they make it. It's garbage of the first order."

Mike Penner, Los Angeles Times

Once reserved for spikes and shuffles and small impressionistic dance ensembles, the NFL end zone has morphed into a can-you-top-this insane asylum for premeditated product placement and personal public relations ever since Terrell Owens pulled a Sharpie pen out of his sock and autographed a football in front of a Monday night national audience. [Dallas coach] Tom Landry used to tell his players that once they reached the end zone, they should act like they'd been there before. Tell the same to today's kids and the only word they'll comprehend is: act. You can't spell Othello without T.O., who showed the youngsters last October that every end zone's a stage and every touchdown is a chance to play-act, role-play and maybe audition for a new endorsement contract. . . . Who knows what's next? Until someone does, they might have to start frisking receivers on the sidelines.

Michael Strahan, Giants

"I respect Joe Horn, but that was bush league. What's he trying to do, get a Verizon deal? Joe's too good a player to act like that. . . . Sometimes, what goes around comes around. Things like that have a way of evening themselves out."

Joe Theismann, ESPN

"This was a classless and extremely disheartening thing for Horn to do. This was a sheer example of selfish football."

It is a lot easier to understand why this was so stupid and offensive if you are a football fan. It's unsportsmanlike conduct and it detracts from the game.

A suspension would be better, IMHO.

After the Sharpie incident pro players should know better, he should have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct, fined and suspended.....

totally unprofessional behavior

He was penalized and was fined.

The simple fact that Joe Horn's name is still news three days after the game was played proves that he got exactly what he wanted -- name recognition.

Pretty unprofessional, but I have to admit, I had a good chuckle about it.

There are a couple of reasons why he got fined(and yeah should have been suspended).

1) It WASN'T a real phone call. It was a visual message to the fans and tv audience. Ever hear the phrase "Phoning it in"? That's what he was saying about his touchdowns(His 2nd of the day I believe)

2)Horn is very talented and a bit conceited, as evidenced by this stunt, and needs everybody to know it.

3) Dancing is so overused as TD celebrations, he was looking for some new fun to get his name in the paper. Well, he scored with that 1. (Like the TDs weren't enough:rolleyes: )

I hope this helps explain it a bit. My DH and I saw that TD and the phone play. My jaw about hit the floor while DH started laughing himself silly. He's been waiting to see what would happen and so have I.

Thanks, I understand now. Wow, he really did go overboard huh??

I predict that his cell phone endorsement will net him more than $30,000. ::yes::

I figured he was calling his bookie to make sure the bookie had the cash he won betting on the game available that night.

I hope to a good cause!

Just think of ALL the publicity he has received since this happened!
