Can you have items in your pocket when entering a line?

Yes, I never found them difficult before, but this is even easier now.

The most difficult part of the older lockers is remembering the locker number, although I noticed some would ask for fingerprint only. But they still aren't as striaght-forward as they needed to be. Whereas the new ones are.

I never remembered the number, but thankfully my husband always remembered it........:D

Where exactly are the metal detectors? I read here at the parking garages and some of the coasters - anywhere else?

I hate to admit this, but I have an artificial knee that sets off every detector I've encountered. What happens when the detector goes off?

In addition to the parking garage and the 3 big coasters, RRR, Hulk and Dragon Challenge, If you stay at the onsite hotels you go through metal detectors either before you get on the boat or on the walking path.

If the detector goes off they will hand zap you with a metal detector.

LOL, I guess I'm in for a lot of zapping. At least I have the big scar on that knee as proof.

Also only the ones at the parking garage are looking for weapons etc. The arches at the coasters are looking for change, phones and other items that could fall out of pockets or be thrown from the ride. Therefore as long as pocket areas seem clear with the hand scanner they will be happy.

I bet it's a lot more annoying to be hit with someone else's phone, sunglasses, pocket change.... :-)

RRR, Hulk, and Dragon Challenge are the only ones that allow nothing at all, not even anything in pockets.

Mummy, Forbidden Journey, Gringotts, Men in Black (I think that's the whole list) also require lockers for loose articles, but they WILL allow a three-prong fanny/waist pack and/or items that are secure in, say, pockets of cargo shorts. But NO backpacks, purses, handbags, gift shop bags, etc.... at all.

so no 3 prong waist packs at those 1st 3? (RRR, Hulk, Dragon Challenge) Are the lockers at those 3 big enough to hold a waist pack?

No and yes. You can easily fit the waist pack on the locker.

They are big enough for a backpack! Aklhough at one (Hulk maybe?) I had to look for the section of bigger lockers.

What about Forbidden Journey and Gringotts? Ok to have small items?

One note on Forbidden Journey. My wife was surprised when they made her take off her shoes and sit on them prior to riding. She had loose thong flip flops on and doesn't ride the major coasters. Forbidden journey dangles your feet and flings you around a bit, so they will check for secure footwear there.

What about cargo pockets with zippers? Nothing could possibly fly out of them.

you can risk bring what you want with you, but Universal won't help you find or replace or reimburse for anything you weren't supposed to have with you on the ride.

You'll be fine with items in zippered cargo pockets on everything except Hulk, Dragon Challenge, and RRR. For the "big three," if any of the items in your pocket have metal in them, they'll set off the detectors and you'll have to go put them in a locker.

A few different tiers of limitations as far as carry-on items.

With the metal detectors, they will not even allow you to enter the line if you have something they don't approve of. (Hulk, Rocket, Dragon challenge.)

Mummy, Forbidden Journey, and Gringotts also have lockers and do not allow bags. I generally bring my phone on them secured in a pocket (so I can remember my locker number)

Doctor Doom doesn't allow items ON the ride, but you drop them into a bin right as you board. This may follow the flip flop rule (no loose footwear) too like Forbidden Journey and Dragon Challenge.

Cannot think of anything else right off of the top of my head that limits carry on items, maybe Petradon Flyers?

You can wear a three prong waist bag on these rides.......I wear a Kipling Multiple and never remove it for any rides other than the 3 with metal detectors now, and Dr Doom.

Interesting.. when I go to 6 Flags, I always make sure I have everything stored in an enclosed pocket so that I wouldn't have to bring a waist pack. But since that's not going to work for the 3 biggies, I might as well just bring a waist pack anyway.

Exactly. I put our popcorn bucket and red cup in lockers on those. Carry everything else.
