Howdy my Canadian friends!

DH and I are kicking around the idea of coming up to Toronto to see the Red Sox play (it's easier to travel to see them, than it is to get tickets at Fenway!)

I know there is a hotel right in the Rogers Centre (Marriott I think), but are there other hotels in the area that would be close enough to walk to and from.

We've not yet decided if we're going to drive or fly, how far is the airport from the part of town the stadium is in?

I've not yet done much research at ALL, so any help or tips, would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

There are lots of hotels downtown, Rogers Centre is right under the CN Tower. What's your price point?

Downtown is about 30-40 minutes from airport depending on traffic. Cabs are about $40 one way and limo is about $55 (prices in CDN $).

Unfortunately I have to say 'Go Jays' :cool1:

I forgot the Toronto Island Airport. It's right downtown and I know Porter Airlines flies from Newark, not sure about Logan.

We're only looking at 2 nights, so our price point could be as much as $250-$275US$/night.

It looks like Porter only flys to Newark and Chicago-Midway in the states, and if we're going to drive to NJ, we might as well drive to Toronto, since to NJ it's about 5 hours. We'll see what comes up on that front.

Off to check out downtown hotels...

And I totally understand you have to say "go Jays" fundy_dreamer.....:)

the hotel at the skydome aka rogers center is a Radission if I recall.

The weston harbour castle is one of the nicest in the area.

I stay at the Westin Harbour Castle for business often and it is quite nice and right on the water...about 5 min walk to stadium...good neighbourhood so no worries there. The Royal York gives you a nice taste of historic TO. For your price point you will have no problem finding a very nice place to stay. There's a Sheraton nearby that's good but I personally can't recommend the Delta Chelsea if that ends up on your list...not bad but pricy for what you get.

One other thing...Priceline and Hotwire have Toronto hotels so maybe you could give them a try for a discount. Good luck...I have the Sox as my pitching staff on my fantasy team so I hope they do well...just not too well.

Hoping to make a roadtrip down I-95 to Fenway later this summer.

I belive the hotel in the stadium is the Renaissance but they charge alot more on game night. There is also a Hyatt, Holiday Inn, Radisson and Residence Inn in the vicinity along with the others mentioned. It's the same for us with Leaf tickets...cheaper to travel to the states to see a hockey game. Have fun!

I  the Royal York. I am not sure why exactly but it feels very decadent. I really enjoyed the spa but that could have been because it was my first prenatal massage. That was heaven right there!;)

Thanks everyone. Off to start surfing and see what DH likes the look of.

These all look pretty nice, and I think we'll likely bag the hotel right at Rogers Centre, and go for one of these others.

The hotel at the Sky Dome is a Renaissance Hotel (it is part of the Marriott family).

I like both the Royal York (part of the Fairmont chain) and the King Edward (part of the Starwood chain).

I like the Westin Harbor Castle, but, personally, would prefer to be on the other side of the highway, in the Entertainment district.
I noticed a new Hilton Garden Inn near the Roger's Centre - it is brand new, so I cannot speak to how good it is.

If you like the idea of having a kitchen, there is a nearby Residence Inn (Marriott chain).

Another nice hotel is Le Germain (www.germaintoronto.com). The restaurant there (Victor) is very tasty.

Hyatt on King, formally the Holiday Inn on King, it the best hotel to stay at.
Easy walk to the Rogers Centre and lots of Restaurants and things to do in the area. Only a couple of blocks from the shops on Queen. Walk to the Dome is 900m 10 minutes.

Harbour Castle is a great hotel, is 1.3 km, 15 minute hike to the Dome.

We stayed at the Residence Inn last August for two nights and it was an excellent stay - we had a studio with a king bed - it had a nice kitchenette (microwave, small fridge, sink, counter area, coffee maker). It is a very new hotel and the location is excellent for Rogers Centre. 5 minute walk, maybe?
This past March we stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel on Front Street, which is I think slightly closer to the Rogers Centre...I would not recommend this at all. We had requested early check in (noon), arrived just before 3pm, only to be told that our room was not ready for us. They didn't even have their act together enough to provide us with access to the hotel pool while we were waiting!! They stored our luggage for us, and then just sent us away - couldn't even give us any kind of time estimate of when our room would be ready. ...after much waiting, two or three phone calls from us, and very little concern from the Front Desk staff, our room was finally ready ~5:30!! The 2 night package we had supposedly included valet parking, but when we received our bill they had charged us for both nights (at $40 per night, IIRC!). They did reverse the charges for the parking once we contacted them. My DH also took that opportunity to complain about getting into our room late on arrival day - they indicated they would credit us for $30, but quite honestly it was too little too late. The IC could learn a thing or two from Disney regarding how to treat guests when they arrive!!
Back to the Residence Inn - it is quite a bit more reasonably priced than some of the other places mentioned in other posts, and you get a complimentary breakfast (buffet) that was very good. There are tons of great restaurants in the area near the Rogers Centre - can easily walk to the Art Gallery of Ontario (very cool building architecturally speaking), Chinatown, shopping along Queen St West, Harbourfront. *Lots* to see and do in Toronto.

Oops. Forgot to mention, about flights. It can be quite expensive to fly into Toronto - there are lots of taxes and fees at the Toronto airport. It may well be that by the time you check in at Boston, do all the security stuff, fly, then go through the airport in Toronto, then take a shuttle to downtown you won't save too much time over driving. The drive from Boston to Toronto would be 7 hours or so. Just a thought: If you had the time, you could fly into Buffalo NY for a lot less (try JetBlue - they have non stop flights several times a day from Logan), then you could rent a car and drive to Toronto - you could squeeze in a stop at Niagara Falls that way.
In April 2008 we went to the home opener for the Blue Jays - it was vs Boston. There was a family sitting in front of us who had driven up from Boston for the game...they told us it was cheaper for them to do that than see a game in Boston. I guess it's also a lot easier to get tickets for Jays home games than for the Red Sox .
The Blue Jays won that game btw. Go Jays! :goodvibes
