Can you give us your best heat tips?

We will be there this Saturday to next Saturday and I bought some instant cold compresses to take along. You know the type used for ankle injuries, etc.

get water spraybottles
ice cream
air conditioned atrractions
and going to epcot a lot because every single ride is inside and air conditioned

Linda R and Outlander,

This past April I spent over a week in Albuquerque and Santa Fe and the arid conditions were not as bad as I thought it would be even though there's been like a 10 year drought. The altitude was what really took me a little getting used to. I fell in love with Santa Fe. We stayed at Bishop's Lodge and entertained the thought of buying one of the villas there. You have a very nice State.

To the OP, yeah drink a lot of water and an occasional sports drink to replace the salts you sweat out. Even though we get used to the heat index, hot is hot and Central FL is many times worse than the east coast because of a frequent lack of a breeze.

glad you enjoyed your stay g8rfan! we love it here. it gets a little hot in the summer but as you found, the dry conditions aren't so bad. santa fe is beautiful for sure. there is just nothing like the wide open space, clean air and beautiful blue skies!
we'd love to convert you into a lobo fan. ;)

thanks for all of the tips everyone! we'll be trying to stay cool in the september heat. :stir:

Drink LOTS of water and wear one of those cooling neck scarves. With search crippled, not sure if you can find a thread on them, but I know there have been several.

I couldn't resist... since I make these wraps! :rotfl2:

Here's one of the threads.... :goodvibes

neck wraps

We go last week of August and it was REALLY hot this year on a few of the days.

BEST thing I every bought - who knew??? - was a silk fan in China (Epcot). Great! I used the misting fan last year and I liked that, but the silk fan was way more convenient to carry around. And everytime I used it during line waits or whatever, someone would ask me where I got it! LOL! (Now it is in my draw at school - my official hot flash fan).

My other tip is to walk thru the stores when at the parks. In MGM, for instance, you can walk down the street from ToT toward the exit, strolling thru the connected air conditioned stores. You can do this in MK, too! I find when I feel overheated, just a minute or two of cool air helps.

As others have said, don't zip around in the heat. Enjoy!

Take a small folding umbrella -- there are times it's great to have your own shade (just don't poke anyone). Check the dollar tree/dollar stores for mini-fans, and small spray bottles (they take up less room than the walmart combo). We found the "cool-wrap" neck thingy to be too gooey -- a wet bandana around your neck works okay (and can also be good for face-wiping, etc.). Wear a light hat or visor, with brim. Use a lot of sunscreen. Wear very comfortable walking shoes (don't spoil your vacation by bowing to fashioon).

I've only ever had a heat rash twice: at Epcot and at the ruins in Ephesus, Turkey.

We took cheerleaders from Colorado to a competition in Florida and we heard the "Drink water, drink water" mantra over and over. It seems, however, that people from Colorado cannot actually dehydrate in that humid climate and we refer to that trip as "The WDW Bathroom Tour".

I wondered if the neck band thing would work or if it would just get warm and nasty...like our water bottles. I can't imagine anything evaporating in humidity like we had last weekend.

We saw a lady beat the heat by taking off her shirt and walking around in her bra...the kids made me solomnly swear that I would never do that.

Frogg Togg HATS! Cooltek also makes them. I have some of both. I use them when repairing meter leaks in the heat and direct sun to keep the ole bald head from being an ole red bald head! :thumbsup2 :cool1:
Also... ASK FOR a cup of ICE WATER, and put THAT in your mister. :goodvibes HOWEVER, I ask that you do that one DISCREETLY. they might not take too kindly to you spraying their free ice water on yourself. I drink about 1/4 of the cup, then put the rest in the mister. It feels MUCH better than plain ole fountain water!
I get my misters at Walmart on clearance each year for about a buck each. :goodvibes
