We are arriving next Friday the 22nd :cool1: and according to Accuweather.com it is going to HOT! Mid nineties and humid. We don't really care because we will be in WDW but I wanted to know if you disers had any special tips to make the heat better. :confused3
Thanks - Disboard rules!

Drink LOTS of water and wear one of those cooling neck scarves. With search crippled, not sure if you can find a thread on them, but I know there have been several.

Drink lots of water and when you are done with that drink more! Honestly, my first day there I got sick because I thought I drank enough water and I ended up getting dehydrated. The next day I drank water every chance I got and I was fine.

If you aren't from a warm climate, don't run around the parks too much grabbing fast passes from one attraction and then crossing the park to ride something else. The days we hit each attraction in order were our best days. For the really hot days, consider going to a park that has more indoor things to do. Suprisingly, Magic Kingdom is good for that. Also, cutting through shops is a good way to cool down. Many parks have shops that go on for quite a distance. Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom are good for that.

This is a little complicated cuz it takes some prep, but...bring an insulated lunch bag with you (soft sided, about 5x7 inches). The night before you go to the parks, soak a washcloth (leave it reasonably soggy), fold it in quarters, put it in a ziplock sandwich bag, and FREEZE it. In the morning, stick the cloths (in their baggies) in the insulated lunch bag and throw it in your backpack. These clothes stay so darned cold, and they are incredibly refreshing to wipe down foreheads, necks, inner elbows mid-afternoon when you are ready to MELT!! It takes a little prep at night, but SO worth it the next afternoon!

There's a brand new SEARCH that's been implemented.

Works great. Lightning fast.

My best heat tips are.......

1. WATER and LOTS of it! -- Remember drinking soda or drinks with lots of sugar do not cool you off!
Even though the drink is cold, lots of sugar actually makes you hotter!

2. If you start to feel overheated, head for one of the airconditioned attractions! There are alot of shows and attractions you can go to for a cool down. One of my favorites is Festival of the Lion King. They keep it really cool in there and the show is long enough to really let you cool off. There are alot of others too.

3. Don't push yourself to go, go, go when it is very hot and humid. Slow down, enjoy the scenery, you'll get to where you are going eventually.

When we went in May in was very hot, I had bottled water in the room and I put several bottles in the freezer...the next day I took 2-3 bottles to the park with me. This worked really well because the bottles slowly melted throughout the day so we always had cold water handy. We also made sure to get ice water wherever we could. Any place at WDW that HAS ice and water will give you free ice water. Many of the carts don't have ice water, but most counter service places do.

We like to freeze a couple of water bottles that way they're melted by noon but still cold to drink. Also, we were there in July (HOT!!) and those spray fans worked really well. We filled them in the morning with ice and water and when it ran out we used water fountains in the park to refill because it was colder than faucett. Have fun!! :thumbsup2

Ever since I was little I have had problems with the heat. In addition to tips from the others (I also drink 1-2 bottles of water per hour and use a neck scarf), I have a few that work for me:

-The spray bottles are great (buy one at WalMart before you leave and save yourself about $10). To give them a little extra "punch," fill it with a combo of ice and a little water. Fill it up before you leave the hotel. As you enter the park and the heat really hits you, you'll have ice cold water to spray yourself with. Also, ask for a cup of ice at restaurants and fill it up throughout the day. I explain to the CMs why I need it and they think it's a great idea!

-I alternate 1 indoor A/C attraction with 1-2 (maybe 3 if they're close like in Fantasyland) "regular" attractions. That way I'm getting my body into A/C fairly often. For example, I'll do Jungle Cruise and Magic Carpets and head straight for the Tiki Birds or POTC (I consider it A/C, since almost the whole queue and the ride are inside). Or, Small World, Snow White, and Peter Pan (if the line's short or if I have a FP), then Philharmagic.

This will work for just about any land in MK, and it's pretty easy to do in Epcot and AK, and especially MGM.

-One last tip. I have found over the years that I cannot do World Showcase in the afternoon. If you get to Epcot when the park opens, it always seems to end up that you're doing WS at like 3 or 4, and it's just awful. I usually do Future World in the morning, go back to the hotel and swim or do DTD (or even another park) then head back to do Future World at night.

Hope these help!

We've gone several times in September. We normally live in an extremely dry climate, so the humidity really kicks our rears!

A mid-day break is a must. If you are staying on property, go back to your hotel and swim or take a short nap....anything to get off your feet for a while. Another choice (we did this our first trip in Sept) is to get on the monorail and just ride it back and forth (you don't need to exit/re-enter the monorail) for 30-45 minutes. The A/C is great! My daughter actually took a nap (she was 11 at that time) and was refreshed enough to spend 5 more hours in the park.

We also choose our "big" meal at lunch. A nice slow sit down meal in the middle of a hot day gives you a chance to cool off and regroup.

Remember how crummy it is to drive on snow-covered roads, and you'll feel much better in the heat.

If we don't have a frozen cloth, we just bring a washcloth, and use it to run a cool cloth over foreheand and neck and arms.

If the parks are open later, we swim in the morning, then go when the sun isn't directly overhead. Particularly for World Showcase. Much pleasanter approaching sunset and beyond.

Thank you everyone. :cheer2:
I have now purchased 3 neck wraps! We have never used them so that will be a treat. :cool1:

Water water water! Thank goodness it is all we drink at home, so dd6 will be used to it. I just found Koolaid On the Go packets in Sugar free and regular in kid flavors like fruit punch, cherry and grape.

I really don't care if it is 110 degrees we will be in the greatest place on earth. IMO.

Hello neighbor!!!!! You tabby cat looks just like my Queen Sheba that I have- god I love that cat!!!!! We always go in september and can stand the heat. Just imagine how cold it will be here when you get back. Last year we froze upon entering our wonderful city on our return. We always take a break in the middle of the day by going back to our resort, so the boys can take a swim or me taking a nap, lol.

During our trip the last week of August, we used & abused our Misty Fan that we brought from Home.
However, it took such a beating, that it consisted of a squirty bottle on a strap by the time our vacation was over..but it helped a bunch!!!

They sell them at the parks for about $16 each.
They ran a deal when we were there that was buy 1 get a 2nd one half off.
The Disneyworld Misty Fans are sooo cool looking.
I wish we would have just bought one there because if it breaks in the parks, you can exchange it for a brand new one!!!!

Have a fun trip!

Lots of water.
No caffeine! (It makes you get rid of precious fluids) No alcohol! ( :sad2: It does the same.)
We're using mister fans and doing afternoon breaks. :sunny:

Don't take this the wrong way...
Don't think about how hot you are. Enjoy the day. :cool1:
Here are a few tips. Dress in light colors, don't carry alot with you, travel light. Wear shorts and shoes where your feet can get ventilation. For people that live in places where it gets cold, just do the opposite for how you would dress in the winter. And of course drink plenty of water not soda. :thumbsup2

We used the 02 cool clip on misting fans and they worked great. They are small enough that DS8 was able to clip his on his belt loop or put it in his fanny pack. We got ours at Walmart for $2.97 each. They were in the pool supply/seasonal section so they may not have them anymore. Sharper Image sells the exact same fan but for substantially more. Here is a link to the O2 Cool website. The ones we used are the green one in the middle with the clip on it.

take a washcloth put cold water on it and then put it on the back of your neck and your wrists, that is where your body cools faster. and if all else fails just get some water and dump it over your head. Also sprintz some water into your hat from a mister fan and it will help.
