I will be at the WL in Jan. and we are a family of 4. My niece just called to say that she will be in the area for 3 of the 8 nights that we are there for. I called to get a cot but, they do not have cots. I asked for a suite and it was $400.00 plus per night. How awful is it to tell her to bring a sleeping bag? Thanks for the imput...............

Not to be critical, but the maximum allowed in a room at WL is 4. If I read your question correctly your family of 4 plus the niece would be 5.

Your right. We will be 5 for the nights that she is there! Thanks for pointing that out.

If you plan on doing early entry to the parks they do ask for your resort card. The 5th person would not have one.

Fire codes set the occupancy level for the WL rooms to 4 persons plus 1 child under age 3 in a crib.

In short if caught, yes you will...they will ask you to leave.

As pointed out, this is a Fire Marshall ruling not a Disney dicision, well it is actually based on the square footage of the room so indirectly it is Disney's decision since they decide on the size of the room, not the Fire Marshall's.

If the FM discovered that Disney knowingly permitted this, the FM would levy a very hefty fine. Disney doesn't want to see that happen so they are probably pretty tight with the rule. Again, it is if they find out.

Do it. you will be fine. So many people on here talk about getting kicked out if you get caught, but not one person, ever, has actually said they were kicked out, saw someone who got kicked out, knows someone who got kicked out, etc. It is only for 3 nights, so don't worry about it. If you would like to do early entry mornings, you can always get an extra key by saying you lost one of yours, or if you have kids in your party, if they check your keys they usually dont care if you are missing one of the kids. Personally, I have never had keys checked for early entry.
Have fun on your trip!

I am so disapointed in some one actually suggesting lying and cheating!!!!! Just because no one has ever pointed it out or been caught DOES NOT make it RIGHT. What if everyone took that logic? Why not book a room for two people and just fill it up when no one was looking?

Wouldn't housekeeping notice the extra sleeping bag and wonder????

You know what is interesting is that you can have 5 people in a room if the 5th person is a baby. I just assumed that you could pay for a cot and pay an extra person charge. I did not mean to open a can of worms. I wonder if it is the FM or Disney making you get larger rooms for more money. Their rooms are no larger or smaller then many others in Orlando and I know that you can get cots at many other Hotels in Orlando. Anyway, I will play by the rules. Thanks for the imput.

  I started laughing before I even read the first response to your post!! I knew what you were in for! I'm sorry, but people who go to WDW just don't DO things like that! We are ALL very good, moral people here. You should be ashamed!! LOL
I have 3 kids and would be expected to get 2 rooms and take 1 (or 2) kids and sleep in a seperate room from DH and the other child (or 2)?! Yeah , right!:teeth:

Was someone just a little too bored this evening?;)

Florida's State Fire Marshal (Tom Gallagher) has absolutely nothing to do with room capacity at the various Disney Resorts. Heck, the Florida Fire Prevention Code only became effective on January 1, 2002.

The room capacities and fire prevention codes at WDW are established by The Reedy Creek Improvement District which is bought and paid for by WDW to wit:

"The Reedy Creek Improvement District, in accord with its enabling legislation, is responsible to the owners of land within the District and the public to provide for surface water control and drainage, utilities and mosquito control; roads and bridges; land use regulation and planning; fire protection; emergency medical services; environmental services; data collection and evaluation; building and other construction codes enforcement and inspections; and interface with local, regional, state and federal regulatory agencies."

Don't worry about putting 5 in a room. RCID isn't going to get you!

Missyc is right!

I was thinking the same thing as missyc.

However, did you consider maybe splitting your stay between WL for 5 days and the other 3 days at a resort that accomodates 5? For example, Port Orleans room with a trundle bed can accomodate 5 and so can a deluxe room at the AKL. The price for the AKL deluxe room could be very reasonable if you can get a code to apply to the rate.

hey mo,
you won't get in trouble we do this all the time.
It's funny I got it layed on me for saying this in another forum but who cares.
Mousekeeping doesn't care if there's a sleeping bag, but I guess you are supposed to check out for 3 days and go to a hotel that fits 5 yeah right.
or book another room for those nights.
are people serious do they really do this I would love to know

I was the first to reply to the OP and started out by saying "not to be critical" because I have been on these boards for several years and knew that some wise-*** answers were coming. It was obvious the OP didn't know the rules of only 4 in a room at the WL or he/she wouldn't be asking reservations about an extra roll-away bed. Now the OP knows and can do as they see fit.

Mo, don't let these yahoo's on here ruin your plans. Some of these posters act like there saints. Then they bring up the "what are you teaching your kids" slogan. Then if all else fails they try to blow some smoke up your as* and mention that it's a strict fire code set by the fire marchal. I'm guessing these people always obey the speed limit, have never cussed in front of there children and are perfect in most other ways also.

Back to reality, I've seen 6 in a POR room before, the family had 4 kids, so they bent the rules a little. Obviously they have to set a limit somewhere in terms of capacity but to bend the rules for a few days shouldn't be a big problem. Early entry is always the busiest day at the park anyway, so you can just avoid it and enjoy.

Really??? In all the years I have gone, I have never been asked for my resort card.

because we should.

There are resorts that have a daybed in them and will accomodate 5 people comfortably...Port Orleans Resort, Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian. You can easily change your reservation to one of these places for the three nights for probably little more than you'd pay for an extra person or you could change your resort for the whole week and use her visit as an excuse to try another resort. I have a family of five and would not try and squeeze one of my children in....the rooms are very small...and it's wrong.

I worked for a blue-chip company for seven years. One year they became very concerned about ethics. Our creed was very clear that we were to have the highest ethics in regards to the treatment of our customer and fellow employee. Interestingly, when one of our regional meetings required a 4 hour review of ethics...the meeting turned sour. The general consensus was, if it furthers my career and I don't get caught, you betcha I'm going to compromise my ethics. Even worse, there were a minority that even claimed they did not have ethics regarding cheating, stealing (other companies trade secrets), or stepping on others to be recognized as a leader. They would not let us leave the meeting until as a group we had agreed upon what our ethics should look like. After 6 hours, and there being an OK Corral stand-off, the upper management called it off and took back the message to corporate that we indeed did have a large ethics issue. I think the world needs more black and white and less grey....

How old is your niece? If she will be "in the area" for a few days...it sounds like she is an adult. Suggest that she reserve a room at the All-Stars or Pop Century.
