Can you get a ticket refund?

When speaking with a CM a few months back, I'd mentioned that FIL wasn't well and might only do an hour or two in the park each day (he surprised us and pulled 5-6hours each day). But the CM had said something to me to the effect of: "if you are in the park less than 2 hours, you can have your ticket refunded." I'd never heard anything like this before, and just wondering if she misspoke or I miss heard. Thoughts?

I would be surprised if this were an official blanket policy. More than likely it is handled on a case-by-case basis and rarely in the guest's favor.

I'm wondering if she was thinking of a shopping pass. Typically parks will let you "pay" for a ticket and enter the park to shop. As long as you exit the park within a certain time (usually 2-3 hours), the ticket price gets refunded to you. A lot of the time this isn't an advertised thing, but if you ask about it they will tell you. However, from what I've seen it has to be done at the Guest Services window before you enter, it can't be done just because you decided not to stay the full day.

Sounds like a CM who knows nothing about how the park actually works.

I didn't think they did that anymore.

I'm not surprised to hear these responses. It sounded odd to me :)

I have heard of the shopping pass, but I thought it was a very limited time, more like 30 minutes. Never heard of them issuing a refund for only staying a few hours. If that were the case I can see people a using it far too often. On a good day you can get a few rides done in that time frame. People would go in, ride their favorites, and demand a refund.

It was. They stopped issuing them years ago.

They must offer something because I saw someone I know was able to do something like that just to get into the MK for 30 mins or an hour bc her child didn't get to see some character. I had never heard of it before but she insisted it was some special pass.

She got some major pixie dust!

I agree your friend was pixie dusted because it's not a standard policy. :)

They discontinued the shopping pass years ago. The only place I have read that you can still go in for a limited time to shop or eat is at the water parks. Cheshire Figment has posted that if you pay the admission price, you are given a limited amount of time and as long as you aren't wet when you return to the gate your admission is refunded. Here's a thread that mentions it (see posts 6 and 8):

I have heard of the shopping pass . . .

1) It is little known, but true.
2) WDW does issue what amounts to a shopping pass.
3) It is usually only obtainable on the last-day or 2nd-last-day of your trip
4) But, it is VERY restrictive.
. . . you ask for a shopping "entry" pass at Guest Services outside of any park
. . . you MUST supply the name of the shop you will visit
. . . you MUST supply the item(s) you intend to buy
. . . you MUST supply a credit card for a full-1-day-entry-fee (NOT the multi-day price)
. . . you are allowed a specific amount of time (eg. 25-minutes, 40-minutes)
5) There are requirements for the privilege
. . . if you do not report back WITH THE RECEIPTS, your credit card is hit
. . . if you come back without receipts from the stores specified, your card is hit
. . . if you do not come back in the allotted time, your credit card is hit
. . . if you come back in time, with the items, with receipt for stated store, the credit slip is torn up

NOTE: The time requirement is determined by the CM and a guess at the
walking time and shopping time. There is no extra time for a ride or for any
food. This is a favor to buy something you might have forgotten, not for
rides or dinner.

We got lucky last trip, my dad decided to go last minute so we got him a FL Res ticket. He has leg issues and it decided to flare up and he was not able to walk or try to use the scooter. Now he never went to the park but they were super nice and refunded his ticket to a gift card, even thought it was supposed to be non refundable.

So it doesn't hurt to ask if he trys the park and just can't make it. Now if he tries that every day then I could see them saying no :)
