Can you gate-check an infant seat?

We're flying to WDW in Jan. and we did not purchase a seat for the baby. My parents will be there with their car so I want to have the infant seat just in case we travel by car while we are in Florida. Just wondering what to do with the infant seat for the plane trip.

I gate checked mine both times I flew. That way, if there happens to be empty seats on the plane, we could have him in a chair.

yes you can...although we've always lucked out with a free seat next to us so we took it on board.
