This is our 6th trip to Disney but our first time flying. We have a double stroller for our 4 yr old and 2 yr. old. I was told that I could gate check the double stroller when I called the airline but several friends are telling me I need the single umbrella type stroller to gate check. We are flying on Airtran.
Has anyone gate checked a double stroller? Any advice?
Thank you.

We flew on Allegiant and gate checked our double stroller. In the past I gate checked our big travel system stroller on different airlines.

I think my friend just took hers on Airtran. I've gate checked mine before too, but not w/ them. I'm planning on doing it again this time.

I saw a double stroller with an Airtran gate check tag on it at Busch Gardens yesterday. I gate checked my double on my last trip on Delta. You'll be fine.

Thank you.
For those who have gate checked their stroller, did you have to cover it or do you just fold it and have a tag?

We did not use a cover. When we checked in, they gave us a tag and then we used it throughout the airport and folded it before boarding and left it with someone at the gate.

We didn't use a bag and there weren't any problems with our stroller (we had a single, not that I think that makes a difference).

We gate checked our double stroller with SWA. We just folded it up right before we boarded the plane and they gave us our little ticket. Very easy! (Except on the way back when they forgot to give us a ticket & we forgot to ask and then our stroller decided not to come on the plane with us!)

We have gate checked our double stroller 8 times now (I think, maybe more.) It is a peg pergo aira twin (side by side) It does not fit through the x ray machine, so they have to hand check it every time. It only takes a min longer though (and I think most front back doubles to fit folded down in the machine.)

We have checked it with Spirit, NWA and SWA with no problems. No bag. This past trip (8th time) it did get a tad beat up and one of the plastic pieces that holds it folded up broke. One still works. It is almost 3 years old now so it might just be age taking it's toll too.

We gate checked ours a number of times. Never bagged it, just attached a tag (sometimes not even that). I'm certain we have done this with Delta and SWA.

You should have no problems at all. We checked our on Delta and Southwest. Southwest lets you push your stroller all the way to the plane. They tag it and take it down to the bottom of the plane. When we got off it was sitting right by the door of the plane. It was very convienent.
