I am considering upgrading our tickets later on on the last day or maybe 2. Right now our tix are from AAA so they include free parking, early entry, etc and at the end of the trip was considering getting the deluxe $259 pass. Where do I go? What time of the day is the least busy to deal with it? I figure we paid $169 for the ticket so can upgrade for only $90 more or do they somehow make it less since I had free parking? The problem is that it seems kids annual passes are $259 also so it would cost $120 to upgrade hers. Not sure if that is worth it. I do not have any extra trips planned in the near future but was hoping to go maybe 11 months from now. I am pg so won't be doing much travelling for the next 9 months, but we do live in No Cal so am hopeful. I figure one more trip and it would be worth it.

Any thoughts? Has anyone done it?

It doesnt matter what time you go. Just make sure you go before your ticket expires completely.

And make sure you do it on the last day in case you get the Select or Cal Select, they could get you blacked out on the weekends.

once you go to a ticket booth, they will tell you the remaining balance to pay. :) Then you get your AP at the AP bank offce inside the park!

The upgrade cost is only based on the upgrade value of the ticket (which would probably be the same as the pre-purchase price of that ticket through disneyland.com). They won't discount it based on the free parking, the free parking is a separate thing from the tickets.

We upgraded from our Costco package 5 day hoppers. We did it on our third day; wanted to do it earlier but it just didn't work out. Once we upgraded we were able to get the AP discounts (with a deluxe you get 10% off most food) which was nice.

Yes, the APs are all the same rate...but it still worked out for us. All you have to do is imagine going just ONE more day inside the year, and you've made the cost of the AP.

Remember, the AP year will start they first day you use your ticket that you are upgrading from. So we first went in the park on 9/18, and upgraded on the 20th. Our year started on the 18th, not the 20th.

Where are you staying for this visit?

A question for you Bumbershoot:
We were planning on holding out buying an AP until right before our trip so we have more time next year to possibly squeeze in another trip. Will the AP start the day we buy it or the day we activate it at DL?

I hope you can understand what I'm asking!

Two items regarding to upgrading to AP.

- When i went to get my picture taken (last month), i waited till after 6pm to get in line (it was 45 min.) Better to do it earlier in the day.

- My main reason to get the AP was for AP rates at DLR hotels. I suspect the cost of an AP Pass would be approx. a $100 more than a 3 day park hopper.

BUT...it would pay for itself by my second night at a DLR hotel (using the AP rate). I scored a $169 PP Concierge in early Dec. on the AP rate....probably $80-$100 less than what their regular off peak rate (w/o the AP) would have been.

Hey, I have a related question.

Can I (15) upgrade a Park hopper to an AP without an adult? Just curious because I'll be down there with some friends in August and seriously considering buying an AP. My friend's parents are coming, but it would probably be a lot easier if I did it all.

Yes, you can upgrade, even though you are not legally an adult. Disney likes teenage money just as much adult money. ;)
