I had emergency surgery on 8-8 for a ruptured 7cm cyst on my ovary. They opened up my C-section and took the cyst, ovary and tube. I have been healing as expected. They say 8 weeks recovery for me.

So tomorrow is 3 weeks. I still can't walk or stand more than 10 mins, I have to sit at that point. So I can go a small task, but nothing much. The pain is all where the ovary was, I guess they had to cut through a lot of muscle-ouch!

For the past 6 months I was doing all kinds of things to get in shape. I was in WW's, yoga, curves and walking 3 miles at least a day. I had dropped 16 lbs before the surgery. I got on the scale today to check things out, I am done 6 lbs in the 3 weeks!! Now down 22! :confused3 but :woohoo:

I have eaten well. I even had ice cream a couple times! I have also made sure I eat a lot of fruit. I usually am a coffee(powder cream no sugar) drinker, but since surgery I am not interested in it. I have been drinking a lot of tea though, black tea, sugar and milk.

So what gives? How did I lose 6 lbs?? I know I am losing some of the muscle I built up, but weight wise, 1 lb of fat is the same as 1 lb of muscle. I am not sure where it is coming off, I still can't wear anything but elastic waist pants, so I haven't put my usual pants on since. Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks!

well first off I do hope you are recovering well!

2. You might have been somewhat at a plateau and the rest gives your body the energy it needs to heal--which does require energy. How much of a calorie burn, I have no idea--but none the less....a big shock to the body and now it wants to be healthy.

3. Caffeine causes you to retain water. Now that you are not drinking it, it could be that your body is better hydrated. This may have resulted in a water weight loss initially and making your body better able to eliminate toxins. Though you did switch to black tea..so there goes that theory.

And it could be that you have lost 6 pounds of muscle mass. So as you get better, don't be suprised if you have a sudden stall or sudden gain as you become more mobile.

I don't have any answers for you, but I am happy to hear you lost 6 pounds! Hope you are getting better and stronger every day!

I had an abdominal hysterectomy over the summer and also lost weight untill I was back to semi-normal activity. I know of two reasons why I lost the weight:

1. This was major surgery. Even though I was physically inactive, my metabolism was way up due to the struggle for my body to heal.

2. I lost muscle and gained fat! Muscle weighs way more than fat! My size didn't change as much much as my weight did! It became easier for me to gain weight later because I don't have as much muscle as I used to have to burn the calories with. I'm back on track now, though.:)

Hope you feel better and have continued success!:goodvibes

Hi I just wanted to say I hope you feel better soon! And any time I lose weight unexpectedly (like the time I had the flu at Disney and couldn't keep anything down. I came home 6lbs lighter) I still count it as a loss! and am still excited about it. Maybe if you try to keep sticking to the WW points you will be able to maintain your loss and not have to regain it???? Feel better!

Thanks everyone!!

I am finding it VERY hard to except that I will not be able to a lot of my activites any time soon... BUT I will be doing them as soon as I am ready too. I plan on getting back on track with the excercise and continuing WW and everything. Whether the 6 lbs come back, I dont care, I just dont want to be more than I was at the time of surgery. Maintain is my goal for this recovery, the loss is just a gift of sorts.

I do not understand what happend though. :confused3

I am happy to hear of your healing.

I too think it has to do with all of the above and I am so happy for you that you are determined to continue on your path of healthy choices.

Do what you can and speedy recovery!
