Can you even see the show at all without reserved viewing via a FP or meal deal? We are not going to be arriving the first day (which is when we plan on doing CA) until about 1 pm so there's no way we are going to get a FP. The picnic meals really don't look that good but we might get them if there's no way to see the show without it.

You can see WoC, but not from an intended viewing area. I really recommend viewing it from a proper viewing location, especially if you have not see the show before.

The picnic are OK food and its a deal if you can't get there earlier in the day.

You're only doing DCA one day? Can I ask why? It's right next to DLR so it's not a distance problem, your tickets should be hoppers, unless you're using a So Cal special. If you have hoppers don't limit yourself to 1 day in DCA, there's plenty to do there. :)

Just a FYI. They are always adding a third show. I was there Friday at 2:00. Just for fun I went over to see if they still had FP. I got the Blue section for the added 11:15 show. As a matter of fact when I walked by the FP distribution at 4:15 they were still handing out FP. Also the 11:15 show was anything but full. If it says DCA is open till 11 when you get there, I am willing to bet you can get a FP for the added 11:15 show.

The posted hours for DCA for when we are there is 10pm every night - do they sometimes extend until 11pm (and add the extra 11.15 WOC) on the day?

Even though it officially says "10PM", Disney actually has a third show planned pretty much all summer. They have cast members scheduled to work at DCA through at least 11PM every night. What will happen is sometime during the afternoon an announcement will come on saying that "Due to high crowds, DCA will be open until 11PM tonight with an additional WoC show at 11:15". Like I said, this is all planned until the busy summer season is over.

Recent reports have said that FP for WoC for the 11:15 show have still been available in the mid-afternoon.

I like CA, but there's not that much to do there vs. DL. We pretty much do California Screamin', GRR, TOT, Toy Story and let the kids do some of the little kid rides. We will probably do Playhouse Disney and maybe see one other show but we have an amusement park here that has pretty much all of the rest of the rides. We have never spent more than a day there during our trips to DL.

Nice to know they add a 3rd show most nights also, maybe I will just hope for that.

I got a text from my friend who was there last night and knew her kids wouldn't wait for FP's. They got "a great spot along the rail next to the ferris wheel". She said it "was pretty cool, even from the back".

If DCA is open for a thrid showing of WOC are all the rides still open too?? i would love to get a late night Toy story run through before leaving for the night?

But my point is, if you're there for more than 1 day your tickets are automatically park hoppers, so you can go back and forth with no problems. The parks are so close together why try to get to WoC your first night? Why not spend that day in DCA and scope out the whole WoC deal? If you think you can get good viewing go for it, if not come back the next day for FP's. I never understand why anyone says they can't spend more than 1 day in DCA.....we love DCA! We have an amusement park 15 minutes from us but we would rather drive 6.5 hours to DL/DCA..... LOL :)

are any rides open that late??

The rides should be open until park closing. I haven't heard of any being closed early.

I agree with you on the park hopping thing. However, they do close all of the Paradise Pier rides early and do not reopen them. I believe they close around 8PM, so unfortunately no night rides on Toy Story. :(

It's in the official FAQ: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/calendar/specialEvents/detail?name=WorldOfColorQuestions

Will some attractions close early during World of Color?
Similar to Fantasyland attractions and Mickey's Toontown closing prior to fireworks, some attractions will close prior to the first World of Color show. These include:

Games of the Boardwalk
California Screamin'
Golden Zephyr
King Triton's Carousel
Jumpin' Jellyfish
Maliboomer
Mickey's Fun Wheel
Mulholland Madness
Silly Symphony Swings
Toy Story Mania!

Thanks for setting me straight on that DLR. I have to admit I don't follow all of the WoC threads since I won't be going myself until at least Spring Break of 2011. And then it might just be my DD13 going with her High School Band. :)
