We are taking our grandsons (and their parents) :thumbsup2 to WDW and will be staying at FW. I will be buying our tickets at Shades of Green for our stay. I'd rather not tow my toad with us this trip.

We have reservations for Chef Mickey's for dinner on our day of arrival. I don't want to miss that, it was the only booking we could get.

Can I drive my 40 ft MH over to SOG and park without any problems? I would run in and get the tickets, then check into our site at FW and then head over to the Contemporary for dinner.

I know I could use the bus transportation to get to SOG but it would take a long time and I don't want to miss dinner with Mickey for the GS's.

We don't have the option of being able to leave a day earlier due to jobs. :guilty:

Thanks!

As long as you have military ID, you should have no problems. They will advise you to park in the day lot for golfers & it will be a bit of a walk (uphill) to get to the entrance.

I love SOG, but can only go there when my brother (Ret'd Army) comes for a visit. :headache: Before 9/11, my DH & I enjoyed going to Evergreen for lunch and a couple of beers. Now....no way w/o ID.

Yep, got the military ID. Love the Evergreen, too! Lots of fun and great pizza!

any way you can get to a base and the ITT office? that would save you a trip to SOG. We are getting our tickets at the base before we leave. Just a thought! Also believe you can get them at the ticket booth before going into the parks...maybe someone else can chime in if that is true! Have a great time!

Thought about that but my base does not carry the Magic Your Way tickets, just the basic tickets.

We want to do the Typhoon Lagoon as well as all the parks.

You cannot get the military discount ones at the ticket booth. You may be able to get the 5 day $99 deal, but not 100%. You can call an AF ITT office, such as Barksdale AFB, and order your tickets and have them mailed to you if you have about a weeks lead. It is a $10 fee to have them mailed though. The ITT office is usually about $2 more per ticket plus shipping than SoG, but you can get them in advance.

Have a great trip!!!

Mama,

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that.

By any chance does anyone know if Disney will be offering the free military ticket and the up to 5 $99
tickets next year like they did this year? My trip will be in Feb 2010.

Best Regards!

Excuse me for not welcoming you to our crazy corner of the camping forum, earlier. You are a camper, you served our country (thank you so much)...that automatically makes you a "Fort Fiend"!! Yes, you read that correctly...we are friends that are Fort Fiends!!

My brother is waiting to see if this offer will be extended into 2010, as well. It's no sweat for Disney to honor our military this way - so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Also - if there is a time you would like to visit WDW without your Motor Home, or if your kids wish to visit, check the Armed Forces Vacation Club. There is a Wyndham Condo on 192E just a couple of miles from Disney that is very beautiful. My brother & one other person on the board stayed there this year and really enjoyed it. IIRC, it was one week for $300 or $350 - for a 1200 sq ft condo with all the amenities. 2 bdrm, 2 bath, LR, DR, fully stocked kitchen, laundry in the condo, balcony. You can't beat it!

So.....WELCOME - and - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

Personally, I wouldn't go so far as to say you won't have a problem. Since rennovation of SOG, the big open lot is gone in favor of a parking ramp which you won't be able to use in a motorhome. The lot for the golf courses is, at times, pretty crowded and negotiating it in a 40' motorhome may be a bit of a challenge. I have had trouble at times getting my F150 around it. If there is a tournament going on, it won't be possible to park there.

I was referring to the big open lot on the right after you go thru the security gate. Plenty of room for a MH - and they will instruct you where to park. The previous parking lot prior to renno's is now a parking garage and new wing of SoG. However - you are correct about parking if a golf tournament is in progress. The other option would be to park at the Poly & walk to SoG. Little lengthy, but do-able.

Deb, that lot isn't as big as you think, and the roadways between the parking spaces are kind of tight, which was my problem getting my truck around. Not to mention the hostile golfers if a MH is taking up 6 spaces and they can't get a parking spot. Unless there is another lot I don't know about other than the one up by the clubhouse.

Debbie,

Thank you for your kind words, it is an honor to serve this wonderful country. I've been on active duty for 26 years and our MH will be our retirement home when I finally hang up the uniform within the next 4 years. :cool1:

And we LOVE Fort Wilderness! We've been blessed to be able to take our grandsons to FW twice and this will be our third time in Feb 2010.

Thanks for the tip on the Armed Forces Vacation Club, I'll have to look into that, too.

If you see a Winnebago Journey MH at FW with the license plate: "R SANITY", please stop by and say hello! :)

Best Regards!

I am the other guy Deb referred to who has stayed at Wyndham Cypress Palms throught the AFVC. It was a week for $329.00 and the place was beautiful. We had a one bedroom condo with a full kitchen - about 900 sq. ft. AFVC deals are available not only all over the US but overseas as well, and the rate is a standard $329.00 for a week, although sometimes they will have specials for $299.00. It is a great deal for eligible personnel. You just go on their website, plug in where you want to go, and they will list available properties.
