can you downgrade from a 2BR to 1BR without canceling

What if I had a ressie for a 2BR lockoff but due to people dropping off I only need a 1BR. Can I just drop off the studio from the 2BR to make it a 1BR and keep the ressie?

They are not supposed to let you do that. It would need to be a new reservation.

I don't think so. I think you have to get a new reservation. Call MS and find out for sure.

It will definitely be a cancellation and rebooking. Depending on the resort, you likley even have a dedicated 2BR villa - so there is nothing to "drop" from the villa you have and even if you had originally reserved a lock-off 2BR villa (like at BWV), it will still be a cancellation and rebooking. Depending on your dates, if there is a waitlist you could end up with no room at all.

Good luck - if there is any risk of losing everything, I'd just keep the 2BR and enjoy the extra space!

You would have to cancel the whole res and rebook. This happened to us a few years ago - we enjoyed the extra room but sure did miss the extra points. It is the reason we don't vacation with friends at WDW using our points for their room.

If a 1 bedroom is not available, you could keep what you have and waitlist for the 1 bedroom.

If you know in advance you can reserve as a 1 BR and a studio. That gives you options later but is a few more points and a risk the units will not be together.

I tried the opposite the other day, switching from a 1BR to a 2BR and there were no availabilities for the whole time of our stay. There were a few days here and there but I didn't want to waitlist.

Depending on timing of trip and use year, one might be able to take the few days available and wait list the others holding the 1 BR. Or take a studio to match up with the 1 BR, again WL the days not available.
