Can you Double dip at Palo's?

If you choose can you do Palo's twice on a 7 night cruise?

You can also sort of double-dip. You can go to dinner one night and you can do the brunch one day. The brunch is awesome.

We always double dip with Palo on our cruises. First you schedule your reservation anytime during the week. On Friday stop by the Palo desk at about 5:00 and ask for a last minute standby reservation. They have never turned us down after three cruises and I plan to do the same on the next.

On the night of the Palo dinner, our server had several empty tables...she told us how upsetting that was, because these people did not call to cancel, they just didn't show up, which then left others on a wait list out in the cold. I don't understand that mentality, people rush to get the ressies then don't give it a second thought, so others miss out. It can't be that hard to pick up the phone and let them know the table is free.

I didn't know about the waitlisting this time, I'll have to try it next time (and hope others are thoughtful *grin*)!!

The policy is one reservation per stateroom. However, there are several ways to "double dip." First, if your family has 2 staterooms, you can make one reservation per room. Secondly, say that you are travelling with you, DH, and 2 kids in one room, and the grandparents in another room. Room 1 can make a reservation for 4 adults and room 2 can make a reservation for 4 adults----thus, all of the adults can go twice.

One reservation means one dinner, one brunch and one tea. THus, you can start with 3 reservations (one for each event.)

Thirdly, you can make your one reservation at the beginning. Then, later in the cruise, you can call or stop by Palo at about 5 pm and ask if they can work you in. The answer is usually "yes."

Another way is that if you are travelling with a friend who doesn't want to go to Palo, you can have them make a reservation which you will then use. We did this on our last trip--my friends wanted brunch at Palo, but weren't sure which day they would have their character breakfast. So, they booked Monday at Palo and I booked Thursday. When they found out that their character breakfast was Thurs., I cancelled my Palo reservation.

Do be aware that if you make a reservation which you plan on someone else using, it is between the two of you to deal with the $10 per person charge. DCL will charge it to the stateroom that made the reservation, and won't get involved in these complex transactions (hee hee).

We were on the 4 day Wonder this past December. We ate at Palo 3 nights. The 4th at Tritons.

On 2 of our 3 DCL cruises we had dinner twice at Palo. No problem getting reservations. Enjoy!

On both of our cruises we booked 2 ressies for Palos (we were cruising with family) but only ended up going once and canceling the other. After the price for brunch for 2,, dinner for 2 and the price of the cruise we couldn't justify the money when we also enjoyed the dinner rotations and dining with our kids.

My wife and i dined at palo one night and recieved a message on our stateroom phone from our server asking if we would be interested in another reservation for the next evening. apparently they have some cancellations and if you are a good tipper , well............ we did pass on the invite to spend more time
with our son

We're going to have two connecting staterooms for the four of us on our next cruise, but only Mrs. Horsecollar and I are old enough to dine at Palo. Based on what I'm reading in this thread, it seems we might be able to get dinner reservations for two nights at Palo upon boarding the ship.

But, to me, that seems to go against the spirit of how Palo reservations are distributed. Every adult should have a chance to make reservations, as long as they get to the reservations desk before the reservations are all gone.

If we make reservations for two nights, that means another couple won't get reservations.

I see nothing wrong with dining at Palo a second time, if, during the week, there are openings due to cancellations. But it doesn't seem fair to grab reservations for two nights just because our kids will have their own stateroom.

However, on the 7 day cruises, there's not really a problem with Palo reservations. In fact, on the past cruise when I cancelled my brunch reservation, they seemed very upset and offered me all sorts of other days/times. I finally admitted that we had made the extra one in order to accomadate the character breakfast.

BTY, I cancelled a THurs ressie on Sunday, so others had plenty of time. They even told me that if I decided that I wanted a ressie, to "please" give them a call.

Our cruise was technically "full" but that always means there are a few cabins left.

This board is giving me hope as I was going to book the Romantic Escape at Sea package for the Palo ressies, but DH said we didn't have a problem getting Palo in the past, so why should I panic?

(We're doing 7-day eastern again 1st week in June, I have to go w/my gut feeling we'll get it again. )

I agree with Horace, too, But on some cruises the Palo reservations did not seem to fill up and they were actually anxious for people.

On our Xmas cruise, we had a huge DIS meet at Palo's. Seventeen showed up for a terrific brunch.

We also had dinner reservations we made the moment we got on the boat. We made reservations for four, since our new bestest friends from the Dis boards wanted to join us (Grumpy's mom). Okay, that's twice.

Then, We found out Grumpy's Mom had made reservations for us also. We told the Maitre D' (AJ?) and he said no problem. they had plenty So we went again. Three times.

Then about half the original Dis group ended up with no kids on Xmas eve since they were on the Cozumel teen catamaran cruise. Called the Maitre D' and he said they would llove to have us all back. Four times. (PS, we also double dipped this night since it was Mexicalifragilistic night, but that's another story).

As we were leaving, he even tried to talk us into another brunch the next AM, since it was XMAS and no one seemed to want to go.

Anyway you look at it, four times seems a bit over the top.

But I can honestly say we were not usurping any spots as there were plenty to be had. It might be specific to our time period, but who knows.

I do know they are tipped people up there, and no empty tables equals empty pockets.

So if we all play fair and play it by ear, a good time can be had by all.
