Can you convince a "guy" to try Flying Fish?

I'm looking for a restaurant near the Epcot Resorts loop/ We will have eaten at Le Cellier the night before, so I eliminated Shula's and Yachtsman since they're primarily steak.

I have reservations for bluezoo and Spoodles on other nights, too. ESPN and Big River Grille don't appeal to me.

Flying Fish sounds great- I love seafood, and the chocolate collection sounds great, I'm just worried it will be too "gourmet" for my boyfriend. When he saw lotus root, seaweed, skate wing and frisee on the menu, I just about lost him. He has this idea in his mind that we'll spend 100 on food that could feed a bunny, that he won't like. I'm a little nervous. I saw calamari and salmon on the FF menu, and he loves those, but he said "I'm sure they do something else to them." Has anyone had them? Do they do anything "strange"?

My second choice, I guess, would be Cape May Cafe- ribs, mashed potatoes and peel and eat shrimp would make BF happy. I like that kind of food, too, but I'm kind of leaning toward Flying Fish.

What do you guys think? Should BF give Flying Fish a shot or should we try Cape May Cafe or something else instead? Any advice?

I haven't eaten there in a few years but I do remember I enjoyed the meal. I'm a very basic eater and quite limited in the kinds of seafood I'll eat - flounder, crab cakes, salmon, cod, halibut - that's about it.

If there's something that comes with his selection he can ask them to substitute.

We actually went there twice that trip. Hope to return again next trip.

But if you both know you'll enjoy Cape May Cafe, maybe you should go there. It may be better to be safe than sorry.

Tell him he can get a steak the size of his head that's probably the best steak on property. It's covered with a rich, delicious bordelaise sauce, but of course he could get it on the side or completely without. It also comes with asparagus and potatoes. It would feed a bunny - the killer man-eating bunny from Monty Python and the Holy Grail! :thumbsup2

Also, if he tries to keep you from that chocolate collection, he's not the man for you!! :rotfl: Honestly, the chocolate collection is the best dessert I've ever had. If you aren't crazy about raspberry, though, order it without the raspberry sauce. I found the sauce with the chocolate strudel a little overwhelming. Other than that... sheer perfection! The chocolate mouse is slightly orange scented, the chocolate strudel is similar to the beggar's purse dessert at Jiko, and the chocolate lemongrass tea is a wonderfully rich chocolate drink with a hint of lemon. I loved every bite!

They're very willing to substitute any sides, and you get very generous portions. It is most definitely not "bunny food." The flavors are carefully selected to make wonderful dishes, but there's plenty to eat! You won't get a plate with a guppy and a tiny piece of lettuce for $34, trust me. ;) It's so good we ate there twice on our trip last week instead of keeping our ADR somewhere else!

Also because some of their ingredients or types of fish may be unfamiliar to people, the waiters are quite willing to answer any questions and go over the menu thoroughly. I even heard a waiter earnestly explain to a little boy the entire process they use for making a grilled cheese. I say go Flying Fish. It's wonderful, and you won't regret it. :sunny:

DH and I love Flying Fish. The food is great, especially the potato wrapped snapper. I didn't get the feeling that the portions were too small. We've had great service there, and the atmosphere is fun and whimsical.
