Can you change a tyre (tire)? (Inspired by Hole in my Tire thread)

Sure I can and I have in the past - would I now? Don't think so, that's why I carry my AAA card.;)

yep

I think part of the driving test should be the ability to change a tire

I can change a tire, my oil, and few other things like that but i just choose not too. I have road side assisatnec and a boyfriend for that stuff. Plus I work at an auto parts store so i better know something about cars. :) LOL

No, I can't.:o I've had many flat tires and have never changed one.:o The last one I had, I had a sprained arm and thought I was ripping my shoulder out of the socket when I tried to loosen up the lub nuts. I had 2 very kind strangers to stop to help me. One let me use her cell phone, the other proceeded to change the tire while I used the cell phone. Kindness of strangers always amazes me.:)

My daughter has her learner's permit and the earliest she can get her license is at 16....in october. In the meantime, she will be learning, by my requirements...

1. Change a tire
2. Check and change oil
3. Drive a stick as well as an automatic
4. Change windshield wipers, fill fluid
5. know the diffence between different fluids that might be under the car..tranmission, radiator, etc.
7. Check radiator fluid
6. How to call her AAA roadservice

It's important to me for her to become as independent and possible. But AAA is still there too.

Yes I can, and have, more than once. My Dad taught me when I learned how to drive.
I remember once many years ago, my sister and I were going to the next town over (about 16 miles away) she was driving and we had a flat. Dark outside. 2 lane road. Pulled off the road on a side 'field' dirt road. Got out and started changing the tire. wasn't long til a car pulled up behind us. some guy got out and asked if we needed help. I said "NO we are ok" and then he said "would you mind if I watched then? I have never changed a tire". LOL!!! we said sure.

So much for the man helping us change a tire

I can drive an automatic and a stick shift.
I can pump my own gas.
I can call the mechanic, my dad or AAA. (notice I didn't say husband ;) )

I'm all set!!

I can change a flat, check the oil, top of the coolant, change a spark plug, change the fuse, drive stick and automatic, and call roadside assistance.

In college, I had an old 1974 VW Beetle that needed constant pampering, so I learned real quick to do everything for my car.

No, I can't. That's why I have AAA.

I do pump my own gas and wash my own car - just prefer it that way.

YES! I had watched one being changed many times before, but one morning on my way to work , I had a blowout and no cell phone and I was on I-95 with no exit in site. So, I decided to do it myself. It took me around 30 mins to do it, and I was very dirty when I was done, BUT, I was sooooo proud of myself for being able to do it!!

Part of my driver's ed class included a segment on how to perform basic maintenance, including tire changing.

I've had to change a tire once. Wasn't too bad, although I forgot to loosen the lugnuts before jacking the car up ... oops ... so I brought it back down, loosened the lugs a little, and then jacked it up, loosened them the rest of the way, changed the tire, and went off on my way.

Yes I can change a tire. One time I was with 5 family members (all female) and I was they only one who could loosen the lug nuts.

I thought that's why we paid AAA the big bucks....
Nope I can't.
Can't do much of anything actually. That's why my dad's mechanic's phone number is programed in my cell phone. The AAA card travels well too.

I'm probably tempting fate typing this (crosses fingers ;) ) but luckily I have only had one flat tyre and that was when my car was at home on the driveway.

Change a tire? Good heavens, I might get my hands dirty!!

DH is so sweet, he changes it without complaining. And the time DH couldn't help me, my wonderful older brother did it for me.

Actually, I need to learn. I'd be very nervous taking a trip for that reason. DH and I already agreed that our DD's will learn before they will be allowed to drive. Maybe I'll learn then!

I've changed tires on my GF's car twice now. I can do it, but I'd rather not, especially because it means we have to spend the $$ on a new tire usually :(
