I've heard varying opinions on this.
We would like to bring some of our own drinks with us.
DH needs his Diet Mtn Dew in the morning.
We also thought we'd bring a few of our own bottles of wine to enjoy in our room.

I've heard that they will check for these things and not allow you to bring them on. But I've also heard (mostly on this board - which I consider the experts!) that you can bring your own stuff.

I need the truth from the people who have been there!

Thanks!

DCL does allow you to bring your own beverages on board. I've done so many times. Many cruise lines (notably RCCL) do not, and they will confiscate drinks, especially alcohol, if you do try to bring it on board. Fortunately, Disney has not yet adopted this policy.

Aha! The folks I heard this from were RCL cruisers.
I just assumed that was true for all cruise lines.

Thanks senor! I knew I could get the right answer from the experts!

Geri....DCL is one of the only cruiselines that will allow to bring and consume your own liquor/wine.

As Senor as mentioned, most cruise lines will confisgate your liquor and return it to you on when you leave. Same goes if you purchase any liquor at a port, they will hold it for you until you leave.

The only thing DCL will not let you do is purchase liquor onboard in their shop on Deck 3 and consume that onboard...that will kept until the last day and then given to you. But any liquor you bring onboard or purchase at any of the ports you are free to consume onboard. You may even bring your own bottle of wine to dinner, but then DCL charges a $15 corking fee. We always bring a few bottles of wine onboard but enjoy it in our stateroom before or after dinner.

Thanks mmouse! Yet another reason why I know I we will love the DCL!!!

Yes. I too have brought liquor on. Mostly some brewskies and some rum and vodka purchased on the islands. Be careful about bringing on a cork remover. It should not go with "carry on" it will be taken and given back at disembarkation. I don't know if it will pass with the other luggage.
We always return with many more clothes than we board with, thus my reasoning for bringing a "carry on"(with wheels of course) with some disposable liquids. LoL

On our last two cruises, I packed a large duffle bag with soda, boxes of gaterade and bottled water and checked this no problem. Both times the cabin stewards used this as a door jam because of the weight! My husbnad and I carried the liquor bottles and bloody may mix in our backpacks and brought them right on board ourselves! I plan on doing the same on our June 7th cruise on the Magic.

We brought on a bottle of wine, and had a gift basket made up and deliveredwith another bottle, a twelve pack of beer, and a six pack of Iced Tea. I had a cork screw in my checked bag, no problems.

Actually, RCL does allow you to bring wine on board and infact there corkage fee is 1/2 of disneys. But you are correct, they do in fact take the wine and store it for you. They will bring it to your stateroom and the dining table for you.

Was on Disney last year and the corkage fee is 15 per bottle and they charge a 15% gratuaty on it also. RCCL is 7.50 per bottle.

Royal Caribbean's stated policy on briging liquor on board, from their website:

For those guests who bring wine and champagne to celebrate a special occasion onboard, these products will be tagged and stored by our personnel, and delivered to the guest stateroom or their dining venue, as per their request. If these special wines or champagnes are consumed in our dining room or specialty restaurants, or in the Windjammer Cafe for casual dining, a corkage fee of $8 per bottle will apply.

So yes, they do let you bring some alcohol for personal comsumption, but they also have pretty strict guidelines on whether you can drink it. Their corkage fee is almost half of what Disney's is, but based on anecdotal evidence, Disney does not always charge you a corkage fee (I have no personal experience with this, either way). The big difference on Disney is that you can bring a few beers for your in-cabin fridge and drink them at your leisure, without having to call to "ask permission."

Regarding a corkscrew, room service will deliver one to you if you need it. They'll also bring you a bottle opener, but you can also use the handle on the steamer trunk as a bottle opener (one of the room service waiters showed us this when he delivered our opener).

Its been a while since I have sailed on RCCL, but last time I brought a 1/2 case of wine for a 7 day cruise and had my wine waiting at the table every evening - corked and ready to go. Will be interesting to see this time around as we didn't want to spend $2400 more to sail Disney in June. On our Disney cruise, I brought 3 bottles of wine for our cruise and was charged every time for the corkage fee. I really wish that the Disney prices were in line with RCCL's as the cruise was great. Hopefully the RCCL's will be as much fun. (I am not excited about the casino's on board ship)
