This will be our first time staying at MCO the night before our cruise. Every other cruise we drove to port with a rental so had the ability to do a little shopping along the way; this time we are taking the shuttle from the airport. is there a liquor store in the airport? or a place to buy liquor/wine/beer in the hotel? odd, i know, but just checking...thanks

The only liquor stores at the airport are past the security checkpoint (duty free shops) for carrying onto foreign bound flights.

Don't know about the hotel, but my guess would be no. I could be wrong, though.

You would need to get a cab to take you to a place outside the airport, there are some stores close by. It's an added expense but probably would still save you money in the long run.

OK.thanks...I could bring it with me from home to save a trip elsewhere too. just wouldn't want it to explode!

For my last cruise I stayed at the MCO Hyatt the night before and I used a delivery service (I believe it was GardenGrocer.com) which delivered beer (and milk and a few other things) to the hotel in the morning before we took the bus to the Port. Super convenient.

I don't think exploding is the issue unless you're bringing beer.
I do recommend something like Wine Diapers to protect the bottles and to protect the suitcase the bottles are in and the items inside the suitcases below your suitcase.

We have a small hard sided suitcase we pack our wine in for travel. We check the bag at the airport, pick it up at baggage and then carry it on the ship. We do enclosed the wine in "wine diapers" and pad around the wine diapers with bubble wrap. The only problem we have had was at the Nashville, TN airport where someone decided to tear open the diaper and check out what was in it and then did not put the bottle back in the diaper. That time though, it was actually a bottle of bar-b-que sauce and not wine. :lmao: Because the way the bag was torn and the bottle not put back in the bag we think it was not TSA who was doing the checking. Since then we put TSA approved locks on the luggage and have had no more issues.

If we are arriving, we are already past security so we could pick up alcohol at Duty Free before going to get bags (or not since we are using Magical Express or whatever it's called to get to Port). Hmmmmm... Might do this instead of trying to pack it in a bag for the flight in...

Didn't think you could buy Duty Free when you were arriving, only when departing? Thats certainly the case in Europe anyway. Could you get some duty free on the plane?

How would they know if you are arriving or departing? :) Do you have to show your ticket in order to purchase? Would be easy to just drop into your carryon at that point and head to the ship!!

I'd be curious about that, too...I know that we can shop the Duty Free shops at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing up here without crossing or showing a back and forth...so I wonder if once you're there you can get things Duty Free, too?

Yes, if you are flying internationally you have to show your departure ticket prior to being allowed to purchase duty free. Therefore, if you were somehow able to access the duty free area upon arrival at MCO, you will still need to show your valid ticket to confirm you were leaving the US, which of course you would not be as you just arrived.

I know in Canada, if we drive and shop at a duty free shop in Canada we have to drive directly across the boarder, we can not turn around at that point. We would have to drive across the boarder declare in the US, then turn around and drive back to the Canadian boarder and declare which at that point we would be charged taxes and duty. I'm not sure how it works the other way in the US.

Wine diapers are great! Bought a set of three for my cruise and have used them for other travel since.

In our experience, when arriving from a foreign destination, when you get off the plane the path you take to the baggage claim/exits is different than the path from the entrance/check in area to the boarding area for a foreign flight. The two traffic directions are not mixed, until you've reached the main terminal (before the Duty-Free areas).

Can you buy it from the Duty Free stores and pay the duty on alcohol?

Do only the Duty Free shops sell alcohol? Can you get it in the other stores/kiosks in the airports (specifically MCO)?

Not in the airports no. They will not sell you alcohol unless you have a ticket which confirms an international departure the day you are purchasing the duty free. They don't even let you have the alcohol when you purchase it, they deliver it to your boarding gate which you pick up as you board your plane.

The best option Weedy has posted above. As far as I'm aware both will deliver to the MCO hotel and the hotel will hold it under your name until you arrive to claim it. Not sure which week in March your Fantasy cruise is but if you are going the delivery route I would place your order as soon as possible to ensure it can be delivered the day of your arrival. We are not staying at the MCO hotel, we are staying at a cheap motel closer to the port for $40 for the night, which includes free Wi-Fi and breakfast, however, gardengrocer.com doesn't deliver to that hotel, so we are just picking our ABC Fine Wine and Spirits web order up on route to the motel.

Ok. Well, it seems stupid to have the rules the opposite of the airplanes, but in Bly follows he rules and don't make them. The rules are also pig alms so i get it on the or vie viewpoint, too..

I think I found a "supplier" so i think I'm good!!! ;)
