Can you bring your own dive gear?

DH & DS will be diving in Cozumel and Grand Cayman, and want to bring their regulators, BCs, fins, and masks. However, it seems like I read somewhere that you can't bring your own gear...fact or fiction?

FTR, I know their dive knives and tanks aren't allowed. :)

.

That's a good question. I know we did a dive with a totally separate outfit from DCL in the states, and wanted to bring our stuff but the diving company wouldn't let us for insurance purposes and we had to use their equipment.

You could probably ask DCL and speak to someone about Port Adventures maybe they have some info regarding this specific excursion, good luck!

From the DCL website:

Q:What items are not permitted on board Disney Cruise Line ships or at Castaway Cay?
A: In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for our Guests and crew, the following are examples of items that Guests are not allowed to bring on board. These and other similar items will be stored upon being found.

  • Weapons and firearms (including ammunition, knives—including dive knives—swords, daggers or any other types of weapons) are not allowed onboard under any circumstances
  • Realistic replicas of firearms and weapons
  • Highly flammable liquids and combustible substances
  • Liquid oxygen
  • Non prescribed controlled substances, illegal drugs, medically prescribed and synthetic marijuana
  • Hookah pipes
  • Power Tools and Tool boxes (except those tools of the trade utilized by vendors providing services)
  • Sporting equipment (i.e., baseball and cricket bats, hockey and lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, fishing gear and archery equipment.)
  • SCUBA equipment (i.e., tanks, spears guns /slings, dive knives, pry bar, and underwater scooter). Masks and Snorkels are allowed.
  • ...

I know you can bring your own fins, but not sure about the other equipment you're asking about.

Yes you can bring the basic equipment such as bcs regs etc. No tanks or spear guns knives etc.

Just remember that your cabin will be small and you'll have to store all that gear all week in that tiny space. I know our SCUBA bag doesn't fit under the bed. After several cruises hauling gear, we've paired down. We take our masks and snorkels. Hubby and I have skin suits and we take those. We leave everything else at home as I don't view a cruise as a true dive vacation.

Are you diving with the DCL operator or going on your own? We've done both and have had better luck going with an independent operator.

We will be on the Fantasy in April and would love to hear how your experience goes!

Thanks for the replies!

I dread the bulkiness, but their SCUBA equipment is really good, and they don't want to take the chance that the rental equipment is crummy. :)

They are doing a two-tank non-DCL dive in Cozumel with a company that was recommended by our local dive shop, and a DCL-sponsored dive in Grand Cayman.

That's the one issue with renting. Unless you've checked them out you don't know the quality or the gear history. Personally I'll take my bc regs mask and fins with me because I know it fits and it's history. The beds on the Dream class are tall enough you can fit things under them.
