Can you bring your own can soda to the food court ASM?

I would take your sodas to the food court and enjoy them with the meals that you are buying there. I can understand the concerns of the others about taking up space in busy food courts but you are buying food there, you are entitled to eat there, you aren't asking to go sit in the food court and drink sodas and NOT eat, thus tying up tables that diners might need.

Uh... Why not bring some other mugs from home (i.e., not WDW mugs)? Wouldn't that serve all your aims?

My room cost allows me to use all the facilities at the resort and how I use them, is really my business. We take food and drink occasionally into the food courts, fresh made from room supplies or reheats from other Disney meals, use the microwave and toaster oven and enjoy. we bring our own microwave popcorn and pop it in the food court too. We take our own beer, pop, wine to the pool and drink it while lounging, it's no problem......we've seen guests check in with enough groceries and libations for a month....again no problem.....we feel for the price we paid to stay at the resort entitles us to use the facilities as we see fit......there are no signs anywhere that say no outside food or drink allow.....other than glass at the pool....

Not necessarily. For example, there is no question that the massage rooms in the fitness center are not intended for guests to give their spouses a massage. That room is intended for a certain purpose, the delivery of a service for a fee. The resort may or may not keep that room locked, or otherwise prevent guests from using that facility of the resort. Guests cannot assert that they must have access because they paid their room rate. Other examples include function rooms (such as Ariel's at BWI), cabanas (at CR), and business center equipment. Some of these things are things that guests can use, even though they're not intended to be used in that manner, because the resort turns a blind eye, while other things the resort doesn't turn a blind to are often locked down better.

Well said! I agree with everything. We ordered pizza and ate it in the AKL club lounge, was that wrong? By the sound of some other posts, we should have been thrown over the balcony!

I am always too busy enjoying myself to worry about what others are doing in the food court. Bring your soda and enjoy! You are eating the food you purchased there so I can't see how that could upset or bother anyone else and if it does, that's their problem. Hope you have a great time!

Fitness rooms, not locked or require a fee are open to all guests staying there...most know what requires a fee...cabanas, business equipment, internet etc....the food court is a common area open to one and all, pool for resort guests, I can buy a pizza anywhere on property and consume it where I choose: pool, lounge, lobby, a bench or my room...doesn't have to be purchased on property. It can be construed with bringing your own alcohol and drinks...am I not allowed to drink them other than behind my room doors because they were not purchased from disney? Posters are dragging this way out of proportion....If I want to pack a picnic basket, with groceries I purchased in route and go to FW, sit at a picnic table....not allowed....come on now, lets be realistic...it's like saying if I'm staying say at WL and go to the CR and buy a hamburger and drink, I can't sit by their pool and enjoy it, or bring it back to my resort and eat it in the food court. I still beg to differ with most of the posts as to this being wrong...

That's your prerogative. I'm okay with disagreeing. :hippie:

It is useful to note, though, that a lot of such disagreements preceded Disney changing operations or services, locking certain things down in certain ways. No one is "responsible" for causing those changes, though. It's a "no foul" situation, but it still results in a WDW vacation being a bit more complicated than otherwise.

However, as I said before, I really doubt that that'll happen in this case. Maybe at CSR, specifically at Pepper Market, but probably at none of the actual food courts.

I mean this good naturedly-- but wow, you seem intent on living up to your screen name, here. If a mother parent brought food or drinks for a child with allergies, or baby food for an infant, and gave them to out to their family, would you be bickering about this? I really don't think so. They sell bottled water at the food court, too...are you going to scold all of us who fill up our own water bottles in our room before we leave it?

They are buying food from the food court. It's not as if they are bringing their baloney sandwiches in and using it as a picnic facility.

If I bring my own tea bag to a restaurant and ask for a cup of hot water, am I doing something wrong? I do it all the time...not because I'm cheap, but because I have digestive issues and peppermint tea often helps me if I'm out and about and not feeling well. The OP doesn't drink caffeine and the food court only offers limited options, so they are bringing their own. Why does that bother you, truly? Why should they have to go through the machinations of bringing mugs from their last trip (and possibly be accused of re-using them!) and pour soda into it? To appease people who have no business worrying about what another family is doing in the first place?

If there were signs posted that said 'no outside food or drink,' then the answer here is simple. Since there are no such signs (to my knowledge), each person is free to exercise their own good judgment.

Your analogies are NOT analogous. Can you use the massage room to give your spouse a massage? Of course not. Can you use the massage room and bring your own brand of massage oil for the masseuse to use? ABSOLUTELY. This is not the same thing as guests of one resort pool hopping or using Mugs from other resorts at other places in the World, etc. Using that line of thought- you also shouldn't be able to bring your own drinks into the parks...I mean, hey, they sell beverages there for a fee, right? Would you tell the OP they shouldn't sit down with their own drink in Cosmic Ray's if they bought a burger and fries but had their own bottle of water or can of soda?

OP- bring your own cans. And enjoy them. You're paying a pretty penny to stay at ASM, you're buying food from their over-priced food court, you go right ahead and don't let the naysayers on this thread convince you otherwise. The only people who will be agitated are likely to be the ones who wish they'd have thought of it!

WOW I must be a horrible person because DH and I would frequently bring drinks from the AKL CL lounge to drink at The Mara while we purchased meals there. I cannot imagine anyone noticed or cared at all (although I must admit there were never more than 5 or so other people eating at The Mara while we were there). So clearly I am with the bring your cans and enjoy your meal crowd.

Thanks so much for the replies. It helps. I was wondering what perception would be. Truthfully, even if we weren't watching our money so closely we would prefer bringing our own drinks because 2 of us don't care for the non-caffeinated options at the food court and would prefer to bring our own caffeine-free drinks. None of us can handle caffeine after about 2 pm (we have trouble sleeping).

It's not so much that I would be uncomfortable, just that I wouldn't want to be breaking any rules. I would prefer to eat inside for the convenience and it will be nice to not have to run our tray back to the food court from our room to throw away stuff and stack the tray.

Just talking about it makes me excited for our trip!!!

I have never noticed what people are drinking - seriously this is a non issue - bring your drinks.

Liz

Just enjoy your trip and do what works for you. So many people have reasons they do things differently as a previous poster said, she had a preference for something not offered. You are a guest of the resort. I would do whatever I needed to and Its not anyone else's concern.

Actually, what's interesting is how so many other people are so driven to comment on this. (I would have let it lay, after my first comment.) None of the rest of what you said contradicted anything I wrote, so I'm confused why you added your comments to the mix, having expressed concern about the discussion about it continuing. :confused3

Some of them are. I've been following WDW for decades; I know things tend to lead from one to another.

Well, actually, then people would think I was trying to use my own personal mugs to get drinks from the drink machines. Even if they didn't actually see me filling them there I'm sure (from all the reading I've done on the DIS) that many would assume I had done that and that is one of the worst ever cardinal sins. The only way I could prove I was using my own soda to fill them would be if I brought my own cans and left them next to the mugs and that would defeat the purpose of bringing my own mugs... I could have just drank from the can as originally hoped.

Anyway, all in all I agree with most that since I will be spending an adequate amount of money on food and milk to qualify for seating in the food court I may bring a can if it suits me for that particular meal.

Thanks again for all the replies. You guys are the greatest. :cheer2:

I know how you feel. I am suffering from old mug paranoia. I am buying new mugs for my kids on our upcoming trip, more because they want them than I think it will provide a good value since we will eat so few meals in the food court. We will have a car so we will buy plenty of beverages for our room and I am bringing our own coffee and tea as well.

Problem is I need some kind of unbreakable insulated mug for myself and DH to use to bring to the pool or to bring a cup of coffee to have with our breakfast. I happen to have the perfect thing, our old mugs! Really, what better place to use a disney themed mug than WDW. Trouble is we all know that as soon as someone sees us with the old mugs they will assume we "stole" a beverage from the foodcourt. Maybe I have read too many mug threads and people aren't really that judgemental.:sad2:

Yeah. I guess I'm kind of lucky in that I'm so focused on what I'm doing that if there was a flash mob dance in the food court I probably wouldn't notice. :)

With all due respect (and from your post count and history on this board, you are certainly due plenty!), when you start comparing an open to the public area to private, pay for service areas (like a massage room), it really isn't fair to the OP. She wasn't asking or expecting to have access to areas to which she wasn't entitled access, and it really isn't an appropriate comparison. Using a massage room without paying for a massage is keeping that room from being used to generate revenue for Disney. Disney IS generating revenue when she is sitting at the food court with her family, eating food that she bought FROM Disney. I realize that you were in part responding to another comment, but I didn't feel that it was necessary to start drawing analogies about drinking a can of caffeine free Pepsi in the food court being the same as (or even similar to) an act of entitlement like usurping the amenities of a resort when one hasn't paid for them.

If I was terse, I sincerely apologize; I'm recovering from Oral Surgery and this is Day 3, which my surgeon warned me would be the hardest...my mood seems to be proving him right

So if I just take my own food into Narcoossees, ,Citrico's or even Victoria & Albert's there in no problem?
After all I'm paying big bucks for a room at the GF and as you stated I can use all the facilities to my own judgment and how I use them is really my business?
I can just walk in with my in my room cooked Crockpot meal put them it on the table and expect the waiters to serve plates and glasses? After all there is no difference between a food court or Narcoossees. They both provide food and as you stated guests are entitled to use them as they please.
How far does this does this" we feel for the price we paid to stay at the resort entitles us to use the facilities as we see fit" go? Can I bring my own sandwiches into the park and just walk in the Brown Derby and demand they have to give me a table because" My room cost allows me to use all the facilities"?
