Has anyone been stopped for bringing ice chest(not collapsable) up to their room? Have you seen other people doing it? I have 3 young kids and it would be quite expensive to buy milk for in room meals at their stores.

We have never had a problem either.. go for it!

We always bring ours for milk & cold drinks in the middle of the night when every thing is closed.

That is our portable fridge. Every morning before leaving for the parks, I wheel it down to the ice machine and top it off with ice. Keeps things cold the whole trip.

Hi!
We buy a ice bag at Walmart or Publix and leave the cooler in the
car.
The BAG is like a BIG MACY bag but inslolated so you walk down the hall way holding a gift bag.
The BAG looks like space bag and can be rolled up to the size of a wraping paper cardboard center.

ENJOY!

THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!!

We not only took a cooler. We took 2. A small one, and a larger one.

We also used our trashcan (with a liner), as a cooler for drinks.

Saved tons of $$, both on drinks/snacks, and on fridge rental.

:D :D

We drive from NJ and bring a lightweight foam cooler (they come free with orders from Omaha Steaks) packed with meals and drinks and snacks for the road. We stay over one night at Hampton Inn, and I refreeze my icepacks in the in-room mini fridge. I separately pack splits of wine, beer and other goodies to make our own mini-bar for the room. We just keep draining the water and replenishing the ice (no big deal).

We also bring a cooler. If we fly in we go out & buy a styrofoam cooler for about $5.00 and just leave it behind. We don't usually rely on porters for check-in.

During our last trip to WDW we stayed in POR & we parked near our building & lugged in whatever we needed. There is no lobby to go through. I imagine most people have a cooler in their rooms.;)

During our 10 day trip I took both my cube fridge and my cooler to the AS Sports (and my coffeemaker..no one blinked an eye (and just to know..I asked if people ever brought other things and the lady told me some people who have extended stays even bring thier own little microwaves!!) Was a little more apprehensive taking the cooler into the Hard Rock Hotel (was afraid to seem tacky w/ a cooler at a 5 star hotel!!)..but did and saw others doing the same and no one gave us a second glance!! Saved us lots of $$

I would love to hear from people who brought in little microwaves. Did housekeeping say anything? My family of 5 stays off site in a unit with a kitchen. It would be too costly for us to eat out for 7 days if we stay on site. But if I could bring a little microwave or toaster oven I think we could stay on site.

The CM I spoke with said it was fine to bring the microwaves (this is the AS resorts so u may want to check w/other hotels). The only thing they didn't want were things that heated up and could cause a fire hazard and caused alot of "food" smell..i.e...toaster ovens, hot plates, crockpots, etc. If I ever stayed again for an extended period I would bring mine..what a big $$ saver!! If ur nervous about it just call ahead and ask right before you take off for WDW. We stayed for 8 days and I just think about how much I would have saved cuz my DS ate chicken nuggets at the food court almost every day (mmm...$2.00 for a frozen box vs. $5 for 4 strips!!)

As long as one is respectful of the carpeting, I don't see how a hotel could object to a cooler or even to an appliance that caused no noise, odor, or fire hazard. I have never heard of a hotel (as opposed to bed and breakfast) that had a "no eating in the room" policy. I'd be very surprised if anyone was given a hard time about this in a well run hotel. The only issue I have seen posted is a request by management not to drain the icemaker for your cooler out of respect for other guests. So bring the cooler but don't hog the ice and be sure not to let the carpet get soaked ;)

We brought a cooler this time to AKL and had it brought up to the room with our luggage and no one said a word. The person who brought the luggage up even told us where she thought it should go, so it would be accessible.

Disnee Dad Says...........................................To help with the ice slogging, bring a few gallon ziploc bags. When the ice does melt, 95% of the water will stay in the bag.

Most important, put a bag on top of everything before you cover.
Something about heat rises, and cool drops, not sure of the science, but bag on top works great.

Last time we stayed at the Polynesian. We rented a refrigerator, a little dorm size one. We got it for free, because I needed it to store medication that had to be kept refrigerated. They didn't ask me for proof of the medication, but do be prepared to show it if asked.

Actually, this fridge was really small. There was a freezer unit that could hold maybe one frozen dinner. You'd have a hard time fitting in a 1/2 gallon of milk. We did use it mainly for the medicine. If I had to pay for it, I would consider a styrofoam cooler instead. They just have more room. But do be considerate of the hotel. Put something under it such as a garbage bag to catch any spills. A small microwave sounds like a great money saver, too. Also, the m/w can come in handy to dry clothes. I used it a few times to dry out underwear. Just don't put anything in there with metal and don't put anything in there nylon or it will melt. Supervise closely! However, it saved the day once when all the socks and underpants I'd washed out the night before weren't quite dry. My only other choice was to travel with dry, dirty underwear, or clean, damp underwear. What a choice!

This has nothing to do with this thread, but its a funny little story I'd like to share. We recently stayed at a Marriott. My 5-year old son had an accident. I tried washing out his underwear, then decided it wasn't worth the effort. I put the underwear (minus the poop) in a plastic bag and set it outside the door. Well, imagine my surprise when we came back to our room later the next day to find a valet bag hanging on our door with ds underpants in it--all nice and clean! Apparently I used the plastic bag the hotel provides you with for valet laundry service. I didn't fill out the charge ticket, but there was a bar code on it identifying it as belonging to our room. Also, imagine our surprise to find $5.50 added to our bill for laundry. I didn't see the charge until after we checked out so we ended up paying it. Moral of the story--always check your bill!

WE always bring a cooler on wheels. It's easy to move and fits all kinds of cold stuff for snacks and drinks!

Just curious... why would you put the bag outside your door?

I think I'd use the coin operated washer/dryers before I'd use a microwave oven to dry clothes.

Since they were clean but damp, I'd probably "blow-dry" them with the hair drier!!!

Anyway, back to the cooler question......

We bought a cheapy styrofoam cooler at Publix and kept it in our closet at the Boardwalk. Filled it up with ice from the machine (reasonably, not *hogging*) and wrapped it with a bath towel for extra insulation. It worked just perfectly for us - it cost us under $5, where a fridge rental was something crazy like $25/day!
