I know you can bring small coolers and insulated water bottles, but will they allow like a half gallon or gallon thermos into the park.

We usually bring a backpack cooler with water bottles but I'm trying to do the right thing and not dispose of plastic water bottles every day. So I thought if I shoved a large thermos in the backpack that would be better. Will they allow that?

Steel water bottle, yes.

Large glass insulated thermos, most likely no because glass items are not allowed.

I don't think they make glass lined thermos bigger than a quart/quart and a half. And what we are talking about is this.

What the OP is probably talking about is this.

I don't think security will have a problem. They may want to give it a sniff test though.

Just remember a pint's a pound the world around so a gallon of water with jug will weight over 8 pounds.

Clearly there is a generation gap in play. It used to be that all Thermoses were glass lined. Not so much, anymore. :)

One other thing to look into are something like bobble bottles. They use built in filters.

What is this? I've never seen or heard or a glass insulated thermos. I have only seen plastic ones.

The older ones were plastic on the outside, glass in the middle.

@ bicker... I'm not THAT old! :faint: I'm only 30!

OP- why not try to find some of the steel bottles that were en vogue last summer.m I've found a bunch of 30oz bottles for <$3 each - especially at Old Navy. You can always fill them up at CS stations so you won't be weighted down.

I agree with the PP about it getting way heavy. But in the interest of being a little greener, we carry either aluminum or reusable plastic drink bottles in the park and the kids can refill them from fountains.

We got some from wal-mart a while back that had Cars and Princesses on them, had a carrying strap and were only a few bucks.

Guess I just really never knew they were lined w/glass. My parents had one they used for coffee. No generation gap cause I'm 32! ;)

Op, like said before, just remember whatever you decide to bring- you'll be lugging it throughout the parks. :)

They weren't really lined with glass.

A thermos bottle is a type of vacuum bottle.

Inside the metal shell there was another double layered glass bottle and there was a vacuum between the layers.

This can describe it better.

Disney recycles just about everything they can. Even if you throw a plastic water bottle into the regular trash, it will be recycled. And, if you don't feel comfortable doing that, you can throw them into the special recycling cans they have (not that many but they do exist). And if you don't want to do that, take the bottles back to your Disney resort or home and recycle there.

I take one plastic water bottle to the parks with me. And that's a bottle that I've been reusing for the past few years. If I run out of my water, I either get a free cup at the counter service places and pour it into the bottle, or I suck it up and use the water fountains.

In Sept. we ALWAYS bring a 1/2 gallon, and 2-1 quart Coleman plastic"thermoses"for our Crystal Light/water;once the drink is gone,we get ice water from the CS places and fill them with that! It's the only way we can deal with the extreme heat and humidity of that time of year!;)

When we were there last August, there was a family that had 2 one gallon jugs of water tied to a strap, one on each end. The kids were taking turns carrying it. I bet I saw them 20 times that day at Animal Kingdom. Those kids were not happy campers. :lmao:

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that none of them got dehydrated!!:rotfl2:

Okay, it was really nice conversation. I only know some thermoses have glass flasks inside (and it helps them to keep heat or cold), but I've also never heard about glass insulated thermos. Not sure if it works the same way as the modern thermoses we have now. But, btw, if you check these https://keepithot.co/hot-lunch-ideas, you can use your thermos not only for water or tea.
