Can you believe this? How does this happen?

I pick up my local newspaper and the front headline is about a man who has broken his 4 month old daughter's arm. He was already under investigation for a broken leg on her 4 months ago. This is in my hometown and I feel sick after reading it. How can anyone do such a thing to their own child, let alone a child that is only 4 months old? She's a little baby, how much of a monster is this man. I'm providing a quote below and a link to this story.

WAUKEGAN — A Waukegan man is in Lake County Jail charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child after allegedly breaking his 4-month-old daughter's arm last weekend, three months after he allegedly broke her leg in an incident that was under investigation by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

We've got a case in our town recently about a woman and her boyfriend who broke several bones in her daughter's body and then poured bleach in her eyes and nearly blinded her.

There's a special corner of hell reserved for these types of people.

These stories just make me terribly ill. It reminds me of a story in our newspaper last year about a woman who put her 3 month old baby in the dryer and turned it on Burns, broken bones, etc

I'm a pediatric nurse and I've seen too many awful, awful things. Some people have children to have something to control and even hurt and abuse. Women are as bad or worse than men, and they tend to get off with the "battered woman syndrome" thing. People who abuse children should have them taken away immediately, forever. It rarely happens that way--they get chance after chance, plus the women can just have baby after baby.

Makes me sick. I hope he has to live in H*LL for eternity. I am a foster mom and it just makes me question peoples' ability to even function on a daily basis when I hear about some of this stuff. How could you do something like this to a child? I just got done reading about how a man (the boyfriend of the child's mother) raped and suffocated to death a 3 year old girl in my hometown yesterday. ***? Seriously, I'm sorry, but things like this are just totally... Well, I don't even have the words for it. I hope that Childrens services will step in and do what is right. Sorry for the angry post, this day has just been filled with this kind of stuff for me, and to read this just sent me over the edge.

It makes me sick to read these stories. Yesterday the top story on my local news was the murder of a 3 year old girl. I guess the girls mother had left her in the care of her boyfriend while she went to work. Well the boyfriend, in the process of sexually assaulting the girl smothered her to death. I don't understand the mindset of a person who can do these horrible things to a child. And I don't understand why we as a country don't do more to keep them safe.

Yes, this is truly awful, BUT....are they sure it was abuse? Many years ago I worked with a man who went through hell for a while because his daughter had several breaks before they figured out she had brittle bone disease. (I forget the medical term.) He also mentioned that he was judged and treated quite differently the time he went to the hospital to meet his wife dressed in a suit and tie because he was called while he was working versus the time he was mowing the lawn and, as he put it, "looked like a bum." I thought that was interesting.

Yep, we're talking about the same story. I couldn't believe it. I saw his picture in the newspaper and actually wanted to vomit. And the way he seemed to act just makes it even worse. By the way, I'm in Mays Landing, but lived the first 23 years of my life in Millville.

I work in a Children's Hospital and I see stories like this all the time. It makes me sick to my stomach. I dont understand how someone can harm a child and continue to do so time after time. My only hope is that these monsters will get theirs in the end.

These types of stories are beyond words. I just don't understand it at all. And what must go through the minds of these poor innocent children?

I feel guilty just by not feeding my kids the daily recommendations of vegetables. The people who do these things, well they must not have a heart at all.
