This is a pretty simplistic question and I'm embarrassed that I do not know the answer. How long can you bank points? I've never seen references on the resale lists of points from before 2009 being banked, so I'm wondering how folks can save up for a very large group trip. Can you bank points for 2010 to 2011, and then bank those same points from 2011 to 2012, and so on? Or do they have to be used in 2011 once you bank them?

You can bank one year & borrow one year--effectively having 3 years worth of points at once, but that's it.

If you bank your 2010 points into your 2011 UY, they have to be used by the end of the 2011 UY. I suspect members having big trips use banking, borrowing, and current UY points to triple their points. Then they rent or transfer points from other members. Or maybe they have 4,000 points to start with, which is the maximum members can have at one resort!!!

Yeah, I was looking at some of the points requirements for a few of the travel programs and wondered how a family could save up enough points to go on any of them... unless they owned a ridiculous amount of points to begin with. That's why I thought *maybe* there was a way to save up for more than three years' worth of points. When traveling abroad, we've always been the self-exploring type rather than going on a Disney-type tour before. Sometimes that's good; sometimes that's bad. We got to experience a lot of local flavor and see many off-the-beaten path locales. But, I can definitely say that when the self-exploring lands you on the wrong end of a kalashnikov at an East German crosspoint (obviously many years ago), you wish you were on a canned tour instead!!! Hiking 30 miles into Zurich after being kicked off the boat because you accidentally bought the wrong type of tickets with your pigeon German isn't a high point either. Can you see why a canned tour might be appealing to me now...? :rotfl:

DVC doesn't get a price break when you use points to book anywhere other than at a DVC resort. Often you can find a better deal by paying cash.

No, only once. The reason you may still see resales with 2008 points is because we are still in some 2009 UY (ie: Aug, Sept, Oct, and Dec).

There is a way to have 4 years worth of points available for a single trip if booking at a DVC resort, but I don't know if it would work for big escorted Adv. by Disney trips.

You could bank Year 1, then make a reservation that crosses both the year 2 and 3 use years, you would have banked points from year 1 available, year 2 current points, year 3 current points, and could borrow year 4 for use for the nights in the year 3 use year.

This could wreak havoc if you need to cancel the reservation, but it is a way to use 4 years of points for a single big trip.
