Can you bank borrowed points if you have to cancel?

In booking a trip I guess the borrowed points immediately get added to you account. Therefore if trip is cancelled they have to be used in that use year.

We are looking at an April trip and use year is Sept. If we cancel can we bank any of the points? All of the points containing borrowed points??

Borrowed points cannot be banked and must be used for a stay within the use year they were borrowed into.

You can not bank the borrowed points so those points do have to be used by the end of that UY.

However, if your trip has both 2009 and 2010 points, you would still be able to bank the 2009 points from that reservation.

For example, if you need 300 points and use 160 2009 points and borrow 140 from 2010 and then cancel, you could still bank all 160 of the 2009 points and only be left with the "borrowed" 140 points from 2010 to use.

You may not be able to bank Current UY points in ALL cancellation scenarios;
You need to meet particular details in order to BE ABLE TO BANK Current UY points that are used in your reservation.

In order to be able to bank Current Use Year points used in a reservation :

in reservation containing points from your current Use Year you could bank those points if you
(1) cancelled the reservation at least 31 days before check-in date AND
(2) if those current Use Year points are still within their banking window which is during the
first 8 months of the Use Year.

example:
Feb 2009 UY points used 100pts (this is your CURRENT UY points)
& Feb 2010 UY points are borrowed 100pts for reservation
with check in on Sept 16 2009 - so if you cancelled no later than
Aug 16 2009 (which is at least 31 days before checkin)
then you CAN bank
Feb 2009 UY 100pts (CURRENT UY) points into Feb 2010 UY because

you are still within banking window as well for those Feb 2009 (CURRENT UY) points
(banking deadline is Sept. 30 2009 - last day of first 8 mos of February 2009 Use Year)

As long as you cancel the April vacation at least 31 days prior to arrival, you may bank the current use year points. The banking deadline for September use years is the end of the following April.

Any borrowed points would have to be used before the end of August. As already posted, borrowing is a final transaction. Borrowed points may not be returned to their original use year.
