I need a rental car from Jan 4th to the 12th(full size). We need a place for 5 of us from Jan 4 to the 9th, then we are going to St. Pete's for the remainder of the trip. I know where to look for some of the deals but not all. What about tickets for WDW and Universal. I'm not sure how many days we'll go to each park though.

Any ideas? I'm trying to get my dad's GM retiree discount for tickets to the parks, but I'm not sure if there is much of a difference.

Please come forward with your ideas and recommendations. This is very much a last minute trip as flights from Buffalo were so cheap!!!!

Awesome, keep them coming!

I've heard bad things about L&M car rental in Orlando...

I use Mousesavers for all sorts of discounts, so definitely go there. You may be able to get a last-minute deal on a villa which would give you LOTS of space while also saving money over hotel rooms... try www.orlandovillas.com or www.vrbo.com !

What kind of bad things about L&M car rental? Now I`m nervous.Booked them for 10 days starting Dec22. excellent rate. What can go wrong just so I`m prepared. We are 5 including a 4 year old coming in at Sanford.

I have read not-so-great-things...in the past..and mostly, the not so great stuff was just about counter staff hassling for additional insurance. Check out the Transportation Board, there's been a few long time posters who've had great experiences with L&M in the last while:)

We would be using them in January - but so far, no one is beating our rate with Budget; if L&M were, I would give them a try:)

Just don't forget to bring your insurance card, and photocopy the full page of your policy to show;)

Before I left on my trip I met with my insurance agent who assured me that I did not need any insurance of any kind for a rental in Florida. She, herself, had been to Orlando, and warned me that the rental companies would try to do a hard sell for extra insurance. She gave me all the documentation I needed but warned me they would still try.

So when we got to the counter and they casually said, do you want basic or extended insurance (that`s how they start) my husband very confidently replied `Our insurance agent assured us we would not need any extra insurance so the answer is no to both.`

I booked Alamo via the Costco site (which I found through Mousesavers.com) - it gave us a free second driver which saved us $7 US a day - We got a 7 passenger van for 12 days for $480CAD. At the time of my research this was a deal but rental companies come out with deals all the time so it is best to check on Mousesavers.com.

Hi all, I've booked a 3 bed/3 bath condo for 4 nights on arrival in Regal Palms. I got it for $77/nt including taxes. We'll then move on to St. Pete's to visit my inlaws for the remainder of the trip.
I'm still looking for a car rental though. The best I've got is a full size for about $250 CA for 8 days. We'll probably take the extra insurance from the rental companies, because if you are in an accident it falls back on your policy at home. I'd rather my insurance did not go up here. We do have a rider on our policy for that though.
Thanks for all your help.

Probably too late now but if you sign up for Thrifty's "Blue Chip" club (free) they send out a 10% coupon with your card, takes 3-4 weeks.
Just got back from using them for 2 wks, very smooth, no insurance hassles, just grabbed the shuttle, got upgraded from a fullsize to a minivan for free and out the door with our free coupon book. Waited about 5 mins for the shuttle, another 5 for the ride and about 10 minutes to get the car and out of the lot. Return was just as quick, 5 minutes for the check-in/bill, little longer wait for the shuttle, or maybe it just felt like it cause it was about 40 degrees F and breezy, and 5 min back to terminal A and another 5 to terminal B.

Its showing $141US for the dates you stated but you can book now and if the rate drops, book again and cancel the more expensive one.

Also you can try using this link for a free upgrade.

And here's the link for the free coupon book, there's a couple useful ones. The "Vistors Bureau" is a timeshare stand. :sad2:
