Can You add Insurance AFTER you buy Plane Tickets?

I was looking at Delta's website-and it seems i can still buy trip insurance.
But-is there a time period to do so?

I'm concerned about having to cancel our trip due to health issues of an elderly family memeber.

I think you have a time period usually, depending on the insurance company and how they inturpret (sp?) it. With mine (PC Financial) we have 72 hours after 'final trip payment' but since the bulk of the expenses I wouldn't be able to get a refund on is airline tickets I bought my insurance online right after I bought the airline tickets.

The problem you may face is that it appears Delta's insurance will not cover for a pre-existing condition...from the page that talks about Air Trip Protector:

If the elderly family member's health is precarious now, that would most likely be considered a pre-existing condition and coverage would not do you any good.

Is the elderly relative travelling as well? The preexisting condition is for the insured traveller. So if your elderly relative was to be the reason for your trip cancellation/interruption, I believe that would be covered. Check the policy to be sure.
