Can you add/delete people to your reservation?

My husband and I are thinking of taking a 4 day cruise next January. I would like to take my daughter also as she will still be on break from college, and perhaps one of her friends. I'd book a category 4 stateroom. If I add them to the reservation now, but then as the date gets closer one or both can't go, can I cancel them without a big penalty? Also, would it be better just to book me and my husband and then add the other one or two later? How late could I add people to the reservation if at all? I know a cat 4 sleeps 4 adults, and I realize it is at added cost which is no problem

We just added another person to our upcoming cruise with no problem at all....but it has to be done before final payment.

I have also booked a cruise for my entire family, and then removed my husband and kids and added friends....no penalties, you'll just pay for the extra person.

That's good to know, makes me feel alot better. My next question, how crowded is a cat 4 for 4 adults?

Well doesn't it partially depend on how full the ship becomes?
I'm no cruise expert (as I've never gone before) but I thought that they could only have a certain amount of bodies on board.. so if the ship fills up, even though you've got a room already- you might not be able to add people?

This is just what I thought, but I'd be curious to find out the answer too..

That's the way I understand it too. If a lot of people are booking cabins to full capacity, they may hit a point where even though the room sleeps 5, you will not be able to add anyone in it.

We did a 3 day cruise this January and I was surprised that we sailed with a full ship. So if you think it's a possibility, I would book them early. You can always add them now (deposit required), and cancel later if you need to. I think you can cancel up to 75 days before departure (may be 90 days- I would double check if you go this route) with no penalties.

Removing someone is definitly the route to take. The only person you CAN NOT remove without re-booking is the first person.

Adding kids to a room seems to be where the most dissappointments occur, once they reach limits for kids in the clubs they wont allow anymore booked. Have seen many posts of people wanting to go last-minute & they could book for 4 adults, but not 2 adults & 2 children.

We had this dilemma for our Nov. 2006 cruise. Our TA said better to remove than to try to add later - also, if you add later you pay the current cruise price - not the early booking price you may have had. We will have to pay a penalty if we remove (itis a Cat 1) but still cheaper than adding.
As an aside, if you don't know who exactly is going, but do know "someone" else is - in our case don't know if it will be my brother or my ex-SIL - they can put it in as TBA and then you don't have to pay a "change" fee. (so our TA says). :)

That is what my TA told me, too.
I wasn't sure who was going with me when I made the reservation and they said it was okay, they didn't need a name for the second passenger yet, just that DCL required them to have that information.. 120 days out, I think? Don't quite remember.
