We will be staying at DxL on points this month and my DH loves to get up early to exercise. I am not sure if there is an exercise room at DxL and was wondering if he would be able to use the one at OKW or any other facility? What resorts have good exercise rooms?

Thanks

My understanding is no. Members are not entitled to member benefits unless staying at the DVC resort. Pool hopping would be the exception. There are other timeshares that extend use of facilities year round but not DVC.

I'm sure what Dean is saying is true, but in practice it might be a little more open. We are now living in Florida and take occassional day trips to WDW. We have gone to OKW to visit while there for the day and even asked at the guardpost and in the community center about it. We just showed our membership card. We were allowed to swim, etc. But I'm sure that was a relaxing of the rules. :)

Does anyone know for sure? I can't find it in the member guide book. I would hate for my husband to be told to leave the exercise room because we were staying at DxL! How can I find out the correct information? Thanks

It is for sure that members are only entitled to benefits while staying on points. Wether a guard will smile and say OK or you can just get away with it, is another thing.

You are not even entitled to many member benefits if staying at a DVC resort on cash.

Dean,

I don't know why you said pool hopping is the exception. I have only ever read that you can't pool hop unless you are staying at a DVC resort, same as the gym rules. Otherwise all the local DVCers could come in and use the pools at any time, which would suck!

Cheers :)

I think the actual rule is that you are not allowed to use any of the facilities if you are not staying. My only point is that a lot of the facilities at OKW are not fully utilized (a lot of people pool-hop, etc.) and they may relax the rules sometimes like we have experienced. We are local DVCers and are, by the way, notsuggesting that we should use OKW as our own private local club.... that wasn't the point. We asked "permission" to come in...not trying to get away with something. If you are staying at another resort without points, you could still go to OKW to eat/shop/etc. :)

O.k. Rich, I am confused! Here's my question, I will be staying at DxL on Points so does that allow me the benefit of using OKW's exercise room or do I have to be staying at OKW on points to use it? If I (or I should say my DH) can't use the exercise room at OKW is there one available to use?

Thanks

Recreational facilities at each resort are limited to guests staying at that resort. The exception is pool hopping for DVC members. If your DxL room ID states "DVC Member", then you may still be able to pool hop- but that doesn't allow the use of other facilities at any resort other than DxL.
If you want to use other facilities at OKW (or BWV or VWL), a phone call to the resort to ask permission would provide the best answer to your question. Good Luck!

I think Doc actually answered the question addressed to me but let me acknowledge it anyway. I was saying that the only exception I'm aware of for using facitilies at another resort other than where you're staying on points at a DVC resort is the Pool hopping. You're not technically entitled to stay at OKW and use the BW excerside facilities, for example. You will not have technical access to any of the facilities including Pool hopping staying at DXL on points or cash. Practicality is another matter so your conscience must be your guide.

In the resort handout at PO/DxL, they used to suggest using the health clubs/spas at GF, YC/BC, Contemporary, or Disney Institute (this was in 1999). Last year, the only one they suggest was the GF, and 'for additional health club information touch "Disney Information" on your in-room phone'. You'd probably have to pay for using these facilities.
On the other hand, I just checked my member guidebook, and the description of the Muscles and Bustles fitness club at Boardwalk is as follows: 'full-service health club featuring steam rooms, Nautilus and Circuit Training equipment. Free for Disney Vacation Club Members.' No mention of any requirement that you be staying there on points, even tho the section on recreational activities does say you have to be a DVC member or guest staying at a DVC resort (but it only mentions pools and tennis specifically). I don't know; could they make it any more ambiguous???

Even if you are staying at BW you must pay a fee to use Muscles and Bustles. So probably anyone can use it as long as they pay the fee. I believe that it is $8 a day or $40 for a family per stay. Don't hold me on that price. The Dolphin also has a Body by Jake that anyone can pay a fee for using. I hear that the workout facilities there are pretty good. The spa at the GF is very nice. I did go there and pay the fee on one of our stays. I think that it was about $10 and you could use the workout equipment plus the steam room and hot tub. They have wonderful shower facilities with everything you might need. They even have their own tolietries made just for the spa. I felt very pampered by the time I had left (3 hours later).

No fee for DVC using the health club. Last year,When we stayed at OKW on points, I went to guest services and asked if I was able to use the BWV health club, and they couldn't see why not. I then called the Boardwalk guest services to verify it, and they also agreed. We were staying at both OKW and the BW that trip, so if they said no, I would have just had to wait a couple of days.

Thanks all for the valuable information. I guess we will just wait until we get to DxL and ask or call to see what facilities we can use (legally). I know Disney does get "lax" on some issues. Hopefully my DH will just enjoy jogging around the grounds and not have to go to another resort for some exercising!!! As for me, I get enough exercise in the parks!!!!!

Thanks again everyone.
