We are a family of 5. One of our children has Down syndrome. We would like to do a Port Adventure together however, one of the ones we're looking at includes snorkeling and our son would not be able to do that. Is it possible for myself and our son to remain on the boat and just enjoy being on the water while my husband and 2 other kids do the snorkeling portion?

The answer is a bit dependent on the operator but the short answer is of course. They aren't going to force you into the water. :) However, you might consider skipping the boat entirely and spend the time on a beach if that's an option. Depending on the size of the boat and the sea state, you could experience some motion sickness if just staying on board while the rest snorkel.

Many times we sign up for the snorkeling port adventures just to be on the water and enjoy the ride and views. We are past the point of snorkeling. lol.

Yes, you can. We hit some really rough water in the Bahamas one year and my husband (who is not a great swimmer) sat out most of the snorkeling.

My husband doesn't like snorkeling (he says feels like he can't breathe with the mask and snorkel on - apparently he's not alone and it happens to others). He either just swims by the boat without a snorkel mask or he stays on the boat and relaxes. We've done multiple snorkeling excursions and he's never had any issues sitting out the snorkeling portion.

If you decide to stay on the boat and start feeling a bit nauseous be sure to get out of the direct sunlight. Try and find the breeze.
Stay away from the back of the ship where the exhaust is from the engines and sip cool water.
