Can we set up a separate board for...

OT: But I'd sure like to know that TP brand!!....
mine are ALWAYS clogging up and I swear it must be the brand we use as they are new toilets/but low-energy/water saver toilets. I am thinking it might be time to "step away from the Charmin" :rotfl: now back to our regularly scheduled program.... I just found the budget board and am enjoying the array of topics discussed/tidbits gleaned from the many different discussions! If something doesn't interest me, I chose not to continue reading. So far this board is very helpful, entertaining and supportive :goodvibes

I grew up on Charmin/White Cloud and it's what I always have bought--until we had the septic pumped this last time. The lady gave me a "talking to" about toilet paper. She told us Charmin/White Cloud and quilted Northern were the worst for our septic. They don't break down as well. Another mom & I were talking, her hubby won't let her buy anything but the purple rolls of Scott's.

I'm one of those if you don't like it, don't read it/don't open it.

complaining about 'budget busters'? Frankly, I am tired of hearing everyone fuss about life's 'little troubles'. We all have financial issues and events but is the Disboard the place to come vent about them?

Do you CARE that we have to take a $250k mortgage to pay off his ex-wife? Or that we have to help DS buy a car or what medical bills we may have, etc?

I don't mean to sound heartless but I don't think this is the forum for whining about our personal woes. I thought it was to share budgeting tips and ways to get to Disneyworld for less money.

JMTCW--which, with inflation--is worth about 1.25 cents now!

I'll take it one step further -- yes, yes, yes, this board has seriously strayed from its' original purpose (and I, too, tire of hearing of people who have traveled to WDW in the past year and now for some reason or another find theselves not being able to pay the household bills).

And then, there's the crowd who always asks "the girls" about stuff like "what feminine products do you use", etc. I say that because there are some of us males on the board who enjoy saving a few cents here and there. Stuff like that just scares everybody away!

Add that to the fact that the board moderator/co-host has been ABSENT since last November...

I think you should volunteer to be the board moderator and clean up the place then :thumbsup2

I think this board should be set up with only things that interest MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

So, therefore, all future discussion should be limited to:

1.) Discussions about personal finance where we all encourage/congratulate each other on how financially disciplined we are.
2.) Wacky deals wherein I can buy 25 boxes of mac n' cheese for $3.00 AND get 6 packs of Capri Sun free.
3.) CVS specials.
4.) The occasional OT post with a picture of WDW/a cute kid/a cute cat/someone's awesome DIY kitchen remodel.

All other threads will need to be relegated to some other board so they don't clutter up my BB experience.

So...do you not watch TV because there might be a commercial for Kotex?

Thank you! :goodvibes You've probably saved me some future plumbing issues, for that I am grateful! :goodvibes I live in Canada, so I will have to look into some alternative TP...I don't think we have angel soft, but I will look into the purple rolls of Scotts. Hopefully the toilets will thank me! :)

Well, I see you are Chicago Bears fan. I just cashed out my Upromise account to buy tickets to the Bears-Carolina game, and plan to drive 12 hours to see said game.

Care to analyze whether I should have spent my reward money in such a crazy way??

This being DISboards indicates to me that Disney was intended to be the primary topic of discussion here. Using Disboards Budget Board space to discuss the Dugger family, why someone is jealous/mad that they have to work and their bil is on extended unemployment and they don't approve, whether someone they don't know should pursue a new job (how could anyone make that decision for someone else??), the adventures of a purple van, vacation trips to destinations other than Disney, how people spend inheritances or swapping Poptart codes really is off topic to me.

I don't begrudge anyone asking for and getting (as I have done for the last 10 years and will continue to do) advice, support and ideas on budgeting in general or simple living or homesteading or whatever, even tho that seems a tiny bit broad to me also. I'm just tired of seeing people complain about things we all face...we put four new tires on our car last week but i didn't feel the need to complain to y'all...we have to take a mortgage on a paid for home to cover extraordinary expenses...I have to pay for prescriptions...I live in Taxachusetts...etc, etc, etc. That's life. We have to make hard budget choices sometimes, too..we all do. It's just part of life.

All I'm saying is there ARE other boards for venting (community board, i guess tho I rarely stray over there) and other functions. There's a board, if I remember correctly, JUST for good wishes and support. I'd just like to see less extraneous stuff and more budget/Disney budget focused topics.

And not for nuthin, but ...I am not a mean, hateful person. I am in the best days of my life...marrying the man I looked nearly 50 years for in less than 6 weeks, taking a Disneymoon AND an Italian Honeymoon in January (gotta love them FF miles!!!) I NeVER get up on the wrong side of the bed.

I'm just tired of the whining and sour grapes on some posts. You may continue flaming me now. :)

Pretty much the same question I asked myself after traveling to Toronto to see the Red Sox take a pounding by the Jays last month. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment at any price. :D

lol, i've no idea why the duggars are here, but really, who cares? If there isn't an interest it would disapear in no time. it will probably be gone by tomorrow.

wondering what to do when a budget issue happens seems very reasonable for a budget board.

honeslty, I think this board is helpful and informative expecially considering there is no mod.

I stayed on after our Disney trip was over because I got so many tips I actually use from here.

Actually I'd like to think I do care. I look at it this way, some times life is rough and when your trying to do the right thing and it seems like it's raining lemons on you, all you need is a friendly voice to hold on.

I don't have a problem with people using me as a friendly voice. There is strength in numbers.

Next, you never know when some one who is in the exact same posititon as you are will read your post and then have a solution that you never thought of. Information is power.

Lastly, these things usually go in cycles, some times we get a lot of them and some times it's more about what deals are out there. There are days I have to tune out the dis and that's cool. Just take a break or cruise another forum.

Very well spoken!:woohoo:

I've learned a lot from these boards. I participate in "0 spend month". I found out about sites like www.southernsavers.com here, and I am saving around $200 a month on groceries by using it.

I have put 2 kids through college, I have had DH lose a job and had to move across the country and I had to negotiate with all my credit cards and start a CCS. I look for bargains on everything and I almost an expert at using Priceline for travel.

SO- I spent a lot of time researching the best ways to deal with those problems, and I feel like the least I can do is share what I have learned, since I gained so much from being here. If I don't have knowledge of how to deal with a financial problem, I won't try to help but it only takes a minute to write a supportive post. We can alll use a little empathy once in awhile.

So, no those threads don't bother me. The only thing that bothers me is being flamed when I am sincerely trying to help someone.

You are always ready to lend an ear, or try to help. I love your posts on "no buy".

To the OP, that is the wonderful thing about free choice and your ability to choose what threads you enjoy or choose not to read!

Some people consider these things 'budget busters' due to the fact that they do not want to take $$$ from their emergency fund and would like to stay on budget. Then there are the posters who do not have an emergency fund due to medical bills, car wrecks, or a divorce they didn't want or ask for. Not everyone is blessed with abundance. Sometimes it is an effort to just get through to the next pay day.

Still others want a place to post without having to let their friends or family know their personal problems. There is a comfort in being incognito at times.

Thanks for your opinion.

I don't think that's a good idea -- given that I am already on the radar of someone in the DIS hierarchy...

I just happen to agree with OP - it's pretty sad when the hottest topic on the budget board is bashing on the Duggar family (for those not reading, that's the way the majority of the posts are leaning).

Well, actually, the way I see it is we'd ALL like to have money and we ALL have unexpected expenses that crop up.

I actually like reading about others situations in hopes that it's something I've been through and I can offer some helpful suggestions or just a

Sometimes, I also like the opportunity to tell what's going on with me and get helpful advice from others.

I feel the budget board is all about "budget" whether it be good, bad or ugly. In this economy, I'm just happy we can all stick together and be supportive.

:flower3: have a nice day!
