Can we make the ponchos fit?

O.K. I'm full of questions today, sorry :(.

We have alot of the Dollar store ponchos. Our DN is 10 and I was wondering if the adult ponchos would fit her. I'm thinking that I could just tie a knot in the sides of them to make them fit. What do y'all think?

Absolutely. I didn't know kid size ponchos were even a thing! That's always what we did as kids.

Probably.

I know you didn't ask this, but for what it's worth, we tried cheap-o ponchos, and they ended up going in the garbage. We sprung for the Disney ones. If it's just for rides or a light sprinkling of rain, the cheap ones might be fine. But if it REALLY rains, the cheap ones are not much help at all.

Could not agree more with this. We prefer to purchase the Disney ones when/if needed. Not only are they good quality that actually keep you dry, but the price isn't terribly outrageous (considering the quality) and it prevents you from having to carry around ponchos unnecessarily - you can buy the ponchos when/if you need them right in the parks.

Another option that we tried one year was purchasing Coleman brand ones from Big Lots. They were $5 each, so a bit cheaper than Disney and still good quality. Worked fine for what we needed, but was still a hassle to carry around all day and we only used them once.

We've gone beyond the Disney ones. We bought excellent quality, lightweight nylon, ponchos from ricksteves.com. fabulous ponchos that don't make you broil.

As long as you only wear them in the event of rain.

If I see you with them on while riding Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids, I will shout, "why are you even riding this??" and shame you into removing them.

Hey, everybody has to be a jerk about something.

We always use Dollar store ponchos and my then 3 yo wore one. I just tied it up on the side so she could walk.
I like the cheapy ones because I can throw them out at the end of the trip or when they rip. When we go in summer I take one per person for about half the days. So for a 7 day trip I would have at least 3. Just remember a Ziploc to carry them in, especially after they are wet.

We always used them for the kids. Tie a knot in the bottom if they are too long. Also, I bring small binder clips (for kids and adults) to clip the hood shut tighter because they never seem to stay on.

We love the cheap ones from walmart (less than a dollar each). They are small and lightweight to carry around and we can throw them out if we don't feel like we need them anymore. I know some people say they aren't good for heavy rain but we used through a tropical storm one summer that lasted a week with torrential downpours and high winds and they worked fine. Maybe the ones from walmart are a little better than most dollar store ones? I don't know, but we have had very good luck with them and they were large enough for my DH who is 6'2".

I've gone the dollar store poncho route, and found they are only good for a light rain. If it is raining heavily all day, you may as well break down and buy a Disney poncho. They are much nice and will last much longer.

I am totally with you on this. Well, except the shouting part...I am a little too reserved for that. But I always wonder why folks ride a water ride with a poncho on. Just weird to me I guess.

Oh, I won't shout, either. Or say anything. Except in my trip report. Then, it's open season :)

Have her try one on.

If to long cut off the bottom and use that as a tie for around her waist.

10 year olds vary in size greatly, but I think the Dollar Tree ponchos would fit an average 10 year old pretty well. They are short on me.

I wear one on Splash if the weather is cool. I like the ride but don't want to be wet and chilly and I don't want to pack extra clothes or go back to the resort to change either. On Kali I'm with you, as the only point to that ride is to get very wet. But there's quite a bit to Splash besides the ending log flume!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Dh and I pack the Dollar ones on every trip we take. We also pack enough for one a day if needed so we can throw away when done. We do have thin jacket type for all day rain (for all three of us). Our dn is pretty tall so I think the dollar one's will work. Thank you for the reassurance. We've taken her with us to Disney before but she's was little (4, 6, and 8) and I had a special child's poncho for us but wanted to try the regular ones this time.

Getting excited! Almost time to go!!!

Just 'maybe' so you can enjoy the ride without walking around with soaked hair and clothing until you dry! We don't enjoy looking like drowned rats without appropriate attire on - 'love' the water parks! To each your own - won't bother us if you want to laugh or point! :confused3

I would never point or laugh...half of the fun of SM for me and my oldest is laughing at each other for getting so wet! Two weeks from now we'll be laughing again!!
