Can we go to our DP earlier after our reception?

In the process of making the deposit, just wanted to ask you all before bugging them about it (I've called them a bit too much this past week! hahaha)

We are having a 2:30 YCB Ceremony, and our wedding reception is from 3:30-8:30 at Living Seas. We have a UK Lochside DP scheduled from 8:30-9:30...will they let us start the DP earlier? say 7, 7:30 or even 8? I feel like a 5 hour reception is ridiculously long for our 40-50 person guest count and wanted to keep it moving with a scenery change earlier than scheduled. We are planning to have the "Uninvited Guests" at the reception to break up the time a bit....but want to go to the DP earlier for maybe cake cutting (if they are able to do it outside) and all the desserts.

Any help?? :confused3

[The planner set the time slot, but am I allowed to make it a bit earlier?]

We considered having a longer DP. It is possible (for a fee of course). Talk to you're planner about it. I'm not sure about a cake cutting because fondant doesn't do well in that kind of heat and they wouldn't be able to keep it at a good temperature.

Fondant really doesn't melt, if you are having buttercream then that will melt. Just ask your planner if you are allowed to have your cake cutting at the park. From what I understood, I didn't think you could have a cake at the dessert party, but I could be wrong.

Yes. The only way it will cost more is if you want the food service to last longer. So if you get there at 8pm, the normal length of food service would be til 9pm. You can pay a pro-rated amount per person to extend the food service by half an hour or whatever.

Certain dessert party locations have restrictions on the display of wedding cakes, plus, if you want to have it on display in both places you'll have to pay someone to move it around. It would prolly be easier to just do the cake cutting at the reception.

Yes, there's always room for some flexibility. DFTW starts out with what's most popular or the way things are usually done, and then you can tell them what you want to change.

Thanks everyone!!

Another question,

HOW early can the DP be? 7:30? Can I move by 2:30 wedding back to say 3 or 3:30? We would only have cake in one location (say for example DP to break up the two hour dessert party). Since we are only having about 45 guests, we are having the "uninvited guests" for a form of entertainment, and then some dancing, but wanted to kinda stick with the way Disney does things and "people move"...one waiting area to the next so people never get bored! hahah! :rotfl:

So, let me get this straight Lurkyloo - I can move back my 2:30 wedding slot if I like? Does that affect the whole 'weddings starting later than 4? pm' etc thing? That's the only part I'm worried about. I just want to shorten the length of the whole day since 2:30-9:30 sounds like a long time...some people might get tired of it...5-6 hours for everything (ceremony reception and dp) sounds like plenty

Fondant does bubble. We had our cake outside in June and it was bubble up by the time we took pictures right after our 10 minute ceremony. DPS is suppose to air brush it out but i haven't seen the finished pictures yet.

That's a good thing to consider, thank you! (since our wedding is in May) :thumbsup2

What time was it that you had your cake outside? Was it late in the evening? Or was it mid-day?

Usually the ceremony times are set at the standard 12pm/2:30/5pm/7pm because they book so many events per day. If there's a wedding scheduled after yours at 5pm, Disney may not feel there would be enough time between the two if your s was pushed back to 3 or 3:30.

The $10,000 minimum only applies to events where the *reception* starts before 2pm, so the ceremony would be at 9am/10am/noon. So moving from 2:30 to 5 would make no difference.

That is definitely something to consider, and it's one of the reasons we did a morning ceremony and reception, followed by a break, and then the DP at night.
