We are near Philly Pa so we would need to fly. We have 2 adults and and 3 and 6 year old. I originally wanted to stay at shades of green or a mod. Is this a dream or can I do this????? Say we get our airline tickets for under $800...that leaves $1700 for romm, tickets and food??? Maybe not enough? Can anyone make this work????

Yes, I think you could do it. But you would only be able to get base passes without hopping on them and need to stay in a value resort. You didn't mention when you are going, but there are some decent room only codes out there. You will also have to eat a lot of counter service meals and not do many souvenirs, but I think it can be done if you get airfare that cheap (which is potentially doable since we just flew down with 4 people for under $600 RT from PHL).

There are DING fares out of PHL for $79 each way quite often. We fly out of PHL quite a bit. Be sure to factor in airport parking into your budget unless you can have someone drop you at the airport.

WDW is running an ad here (in Baltimore area) for $1700 for a family of 4 for a week including dining so call Disney and ask them about that special.

If you stay at SOG then you can't take DME so you would have to add in the cost of a shuttle service back and forth to the airport or a rental car. If you stay at a WDW resort you can take DME and save that expense.

You can eat cheap (bring snacks from home!) and limit the amount of "extras" like souvenirs, park hopper/waterparks options on the tix and table service/character meals and YES I believe you can do it.

Are your dates very flexible? I am thinking September with free dining may be doable! You could shave a ton of money off the top if you drove if you have extra days to build in for travel.

With codes/discounts I think it's doable.

I agree with the previouse poster. It is doable...and you should be able to do it with Shades of Green..but what are teh dates?? That is the important part. You should also see if there are rooms available for SOG!

Can I ask what airlines you flew to get all 4 of you to FL for under $600? I have been looking for airfare out of Denver and am lucky to find something under $1100 for the four of us.

I think you can definitely do it if you are willing to stay at a value, or get a great code for a mod.

Here is our breakdown for our trip next month:

Roundtrip Airfare for 4 - $750
7 nights at POP WITH DINING and 8 day park hoppers - $2120
Total cost - $2870

We did use a code and got a great price on airfare, but if you cut out the dining and park hoppers, we definitely could have been under the $2500 mark. With the code we used, a Moderate hotel was only $200 more for the 7 nights. We are also traveling around Thanksgiving, so a few days our room rates were higher as a result.

If you travel during a value season and get a good deal on airfare, I think you can totally make that dream a reality!

Check out www.mousesavers.com for hints on how to cut costs. She also lists prices for the hotels and any specials going on.

I would stay with the base passes. With little kids I think hopping is too much work and wastes too much time. Especially if you are dealing with strollers. It would also eliminate you feeling like you had to rush places and let you have more time seeing things instead of traveling from place to place. That would certainly save you money.

If you can swing it, I'd suggest renting a compact car. Disney buses can have long waits and some resorts share buses. With little kids that's not fun. Even paying the $12 a day parking fee is worth it to me.

You could use the money saved from the hopper passes for a special character meal or souvenirs. Just an idea to consider.

Have fun planning!

If you are willing to stay offsite, you can save money too. Check out Windsor Hills Resorts. Very close to Disney and you can get a 2 or 3 bedroom for well under $100 a night.

If you join the windsor hills club, they will send you emails for specials. I just got one this week for $199 for a full week.

The money you save would let you have more discretionary spending for meals and souvenirs and it is always nice to have room to spread out at the end of the day and put the kids to bed in a bedroom and then get to hang out.

Just an idea.

Southwest going down $64 and Airtran home $55. With fees/taxes it was something like $143 RT.

I also was down in August on a quick getaway and it was $64 both ways on Southwest.

PHL to MCO there are usually really good fares!

Thank you for asking this question - I am also trying to plan a budget-minded trip for two adults, a 6yo, and a 3yo! I'll be watching this thread with interest. :thumbsup2

I think you should be able to do it, especially if you are willing to stay at a value resort. For 2 adults and 2 kids (11&6) to stay 8 nights, 6 day park passes with hoppers will be $2087.96, if you watch for codes and are flexible with dates you might snatch the rooms at an additional $29 off of that price, and Both of your kids are still considered Kids which will drop their park ticket prices. Contact a Travel Agent, tell them the budget you have to work with and they will do everything in their power to help you out.
I second checking on MouseSavers for Tips of Traveling on a Budget. When I went in 2006 (A family of 5, but one was under two so really 4 of us) We spent $2200 total on everything For 6 days:)

Dates are very flexible! Whatever is the cheapest...we are there! We can even do last minute if we want! Thanks everyone! In my mind a vacation should not be over 2500! :)

I think it's very doable... We live close to you and flew Southwest on our last trip. Tix were about $750. I signed up for ding and got an internet deal. We have always stayed at Value resorts during value season. Were there for WDW not the resort(that's just us). We don't use the dining plan - way too much food for us. Breakfast at the Pop, light lunch or snack and a nice dinner somewhere in the World. We would never spend as much as the dining plan costs unless it's free of corse.(again - that us) Our tix were in a package w/ free hopper and water parks and fun add on. It really depends on WHEN your going. AAA had good prices and then a discount code came out that was even better. We were right around $2500(flight,POP,food and tix) and we stayed for 9 days. Another thing that helped was having a fridge from a fridge swap. We had salads, veggies and dip, milk for cereal ect.... in our room for snacking.
Good Luck.....:wizard:

Walt Disney World is currently offering a package deal for a family of four, at the rate of $1696.00. That is for two adults, one junior and one child.
There are still great air fares to be had, so it is very possible, to be able to have a complete vacation planned out for about $2,500.00 not including necessarily however, spending money, and emergency funds.
Have a great trip! :)

Disney has a dealout now for select dates between now and end of year for $63 p/p a night which includes base admission tickets and dining which is approx $1764 plus tax leaving you with almost $800 for airfare . Of course it's a value resort !!

My family of four went for 11 nights for under 2,000. We used the auto train, and did NOT get roomettes- the four of us plus our car was about 710 round trip. We had a code & stayed in pop century for about 65 a night and then we got 7 days of base tickets. It can be done!!!

There have been DINGs in the past week for $79 each way PHL to MCO for mid-November to mid-December.

Hey if you can leave out of the Scranton area try Boscov's travelcenter. They run a charter flight. I think for 4 of us it was about 2400. That included everything.
airfare,trans,value resort, tickets, dining......
