We will be staying at the world for 9 nights in October: 4 nights AKV Jambo House Savannah View studio followed by 5 nights in a studio at OKW. The OKW confirmation has a date for a Trash and Towel Service on it on our penultimate day. We don't eat in the room so won't have much trash and what we have, I am quite happy to take out myself. I also have no problem adding a towel or two if I do our laundry. One of the reasons for going down the DVC route is that we won't get bothered by Mousekeeping unless we have a long stay. Can we just cancel the Trash and Towel Service.

Yes you can cancel. Call mousekeeping. However, don't be surprised if the request gets lost. When we changed our cleaning/T&T schedule at OKW, the message never got through to the mousekeepers. If you see your mousekeeper on the day it is due, it would be a good idea to tell her directly. Good luck! We thought we would miss maid service as DVC members but have come to really like not having the hassle of someone coming into our room every day.

Yes you can. As mentioned, sometimes it doesn't always get to the person cleaning your room. So what I would suggest is to call housekeeping and cancel. And then remember to put the privacy sign at your door. That way, they will not go in, but they may leave a voice message. And at that point you can just call back and tell them that you had cancelled it.

I'm going to cancel ours for our July trip. We are only there for 5 days and the trash/towel service is scheduled for the day before we leave. We won't be needing it.

However, last year we were there for 8 days and never got a trash/towel service. No one ever came in. Weird, but we didn't mind. I think we'd rather not have them come in.

We were at BWV over Christmas for 5 days on our first DVC trip and loved not having Mousekeeping. We hung the PRIVACY sign on towel and trash day. That day we got a phone message from mousekeeping (that if I remember correctly) said call us if you want us to come by at another time. I thought I'd miss Mousekeeping, but the exact opposite was true.

We just leave the "do not disturb" sign on the door. On T&T day at OKW your will find fresh towels outside your door in a basket. Take the clean and leave the dirty. At AKV just swap towels with the Mousekeepers who will be working down the hall.

Another option for you is to reschedule your T&T day. For example, it might make more sense to have them come on the 3rd day or your stay rather than the 4th day. In addition to fresh towels then will provide additional shampoo, soap, etc. if you need it.

Okay, I've just got to ask - what is a "penultimate day"? This is a new one on me. And why would that conflict with T&T?

The penultimate day is the day before the last day. Penultimate means "next to the last".

Thanks for all the replies. I have been kind of out of the loop the last 36 hours.
I was just bemused that they scheduled the Trash and Towel Service the day before we are headed home. I rather not be bothered at all. So I will let them know when we get there and also will have the "Do Not Disturb" sign out. I have always felt uncomfortable having daily housekeeping. I feel like I cannot sleep in or go back to the room midmorning. So DVC suits us very well in that respect. I come from a Disney Cruise and if my first two cruises are anything to go by, we will have plenty of shampoo, soap, etc. left over.

We usually put the do not disturb on the door. If we are there when they come by (and we often are as we are not in a hurry on vacation anymore) we just meet them at the door with the towels and switch for clean ones. It's nice to have new towels if you are in a studio. if we are in units with laundry we will often have washed them anyway.

They schedule on day x of your stay and it doesn't make any difference when that day falls in your stay.

We had the same thing last stay, full clean was the day before we left and T&T was somewhere in the middle. We called to switch but the request got lost, then we got it the next day and the last day ;)

When I called why they hadn't come they did ask if I had the do not disturb out 'cause then they don't come in.

When I was a kid, my parents rented a cabin on a lake. We had to do all our own laundry, and trash.
While I like the T&T, I still haven't gotten used to it. I take out my trash, and recyclables, and wash the towels when needed. I do like the replenished soaps and shampoo though.

Looks like we have one of those language differences here between USA and UK. ;) For me penultimate rolls of the tongue quite nicely. I am not sure in what other way I could have put this. I suppose I could have said " the day before our last day".
