Can We Camp in Our Car??

I love it because it doesn't even mean anything close to what it sounds like. I had a cat named Magellan. His nickname was Jelly. He was fuzzy. :cool2:

Plus it's never taken anywhere on the internet.

Stay here on the camping board and you will be taken places you've never dreamed of!! :lmao:

I think someone else posted about staying at a value resort. Depending upon the level of site you booked, a value is cheaper, and you can usually sneak up on some sort of dining plan that you cannot get with a camp site. Don't ask me why - it's just Disney.

:welcome: to the dark side of the camping board!!

I'm not sure what I said wrong, but I wasn't trying to offend anyone. We have a PT Cruiser and we usually just remove the seats and sleep in the back.

We want to camp, not stay in a hotel. I suppose we could check out on the nights that we stay with friends, but I want to make sure we have a spot reserved. It seems safer to reserve for the whole two weeks.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying their popcorn.

Didn't offend me either, but I was dying to ask why you sleep in your car. But thought that was a personal question, so I didn't!

I did it once. I think I was 20 years old. My experience was horrible. I think I was intoxicated though so that might have had something to do with it.

Like PP said, they probably won't come around looking into your car at night, but I wouldn't mention it when you check in because it's probably not encouraged.

So you do convert your car to a "camping vehicle" :)

The other thing is that there have been folks in the past who stay offsite and get a campsite just to get the onsite perks with no intention of ever staying on the site. Kind of a debate on that and how "fair" it is...so that's a whole can o worms that I wondered about with your question...like maybe ytou were feeling out that scenario. But like some have said, a value room is often cheaper than a site (non campers thing that campsites are like 5 bucks!)

I slept on top of a picnic table one time when I was at FW with a youth group back in the 80's and nobody cared. Good times!

Welcome aboard! :welcome: Don't worry about offending anyone.

I have seen other people camp in their vehicles. Not at the Fort but at a local State campground. The first night we went camping someone pulled up beside us in a old mini van and pulled out an window ac propped it up with a board to the passenger side window and slept for the night. Wasn't quite sure what to think about that one.

You might want to check out the Value Resorts. Might save you some $$$ and be more comfortable.

We once turned the back of my parents Jeep Cherokee into a "camper" - just took a tarp, some rope and sleeping bags. :)

...oh and I'm pretty sure there was also beer involved. ;)

This year I have decided to save some money and, instead of taking the camper down, I will be sleeping in an old refrigerator box I stole from a homeless guy living under a bridge in Allentown.

Would you consider doing a "box swap" and letting us use it the following week? I promise to leave it in good condition for whoever wants it the week after.

Do they allow that on the 3000 loop?

Actually, they encourage it in the 3000 loop. They will even sponsor a refrigerator box decorating contest. Disney will provide the used aluminum foil and TV dinner trays.

Leave a crock-pot full of chili on the picnic table and a roll of toilet paper on the water hook-up, and you will be just fine.

If you put exlax in it you'll have a stream of otter stuff all over the place!

What the heck would I use next year?

Spent a night sleeping on bench seats of a '55 Chevy in St. Luis MO in August of 1988. Good times, slept better there than the Knight's Inn outside Columbus OH.

This is sort of OT but I keep seeing people saying the "try a value, its cheaper" thing, and I don't get it :confused3

I am looking at 11/1-11/2, because that is the first day of the week that we are hoping to go to FW.

A standard site at FW is $44 , standard value room $118.

If you can snag a discount - FW $37 , value room $89.

So its like twice as much to stay at a value.

Maybe people are talking about premium sites, but I don't know why you'd get one of those if you were tent (or car ;) ) camping.

I know the values used to be a lot cheaper ...

Am I missing something?

Well, kinda...at the values they have extended the free dining, which is NEVER EVER given to us po folk campers because we supposedly can cram 10 people on a site. (uh huh) So I believe that the food was the extra option that you would not receive at the tent/car site. However, IMHO, I could never eat all that food on the plan, so more power to y'all for trying! ;)
