Is it possible to buy new directly from DVC for BWV? We are not currently owners. We are only interested in BWV points. Are there specific things we can say to guide for them to allow this?

I know there are resales available. Just wanted to see if direct was also an option.

Subject to availability, DVC will sell you BWV points. You must buy a minimum of 150 points. I think the price is $95 a point. You only have to tell the guide that you are not interested in SSR, and want BWV only.

You'll have a better chance if you don't tell them what use year you want. Go with any and you'll move faster on the waitlist for these points.

You may have to be insistent on buying BWV. Last year when I bought into BWV for the first time, I had to tell them I only wanted BWV . The first guide I spoke with said they could not sell me BWV and kept repeating that.

I came here and found out differently got the name of a good guide who WOULD help me and now I happily have 225 BWV points

Can you please pass along the name of that guide via PM? Thanks!!

The only reason I can see to not pick up a BWV resale is that you have to put the deposit down in cash and get outside financing. Direct from Disney will let you put as much of it as you want on on a CC.

We are in the process of buying a resale. I will break down our potential savings:

Price is $10/pt less (at $85), closing costs are ~$250 more, financing is a bit less than WDW quoted us in Oct (9.9% via resale vs. 10.75% from WDW). It also came w/ 215 banked points with the dues paid by the seller. So, if you count renting those points (although we likely won't), that is $2150 off the total price at renting for $10/pt.

So, even without the extra points, buying resale is about $86.20/pt (factoring in extra closing costs) vs $95/pt from WDW. If you factor in the extra points, it is about $75/pt, or $20/pt off what WDW is offering.

Does Disney offer any of their incentive programs if you insist on BWV? OR would that only be for SSR?

Incentives are only offered for the resorts Disney is actively selling, so that would be SSR only at present. AKV goes on sale to the public next month but there is no information about any incentives at AKV for new members.

There is another reason for buying direct - its a done deal quickly - and your guide can help you make reservations when they have your deposit. Resales can be kind of a lengthy process and occationally fall through - so it could be three-four months before you can make reservations - longer if you are looking for something specific in a contract.

The thing to watch for with resales is how many points you are getting now. Figure points are worth about $10 per - so to buy a contract where you don't get any points until Feb 08 resale is worth something less than $85 (Disney's $95-10). A lot of the resale contracts are "stripped" - you won't see points until 2008.

If it comes down to putting the down payment on a CC someone could just use one of those checks the CC companies always send and some of those have interest free for periods longer than Disney card.

They are only worth 10 per point if they come dues paid if the buyer is paying the dues on them they are less then 6 per point.

Good point. And for us (we bought a stripped contract resale) they weren't even worth that much since we didn't have travel plans in the period when the points we didn't get would need to be used. The hassle of renting them is worth something as well.

But there are LOTS of stripped BWV contracts selling for $85 a point.

Got my BWV points from Disney in 2005 with no wait.

If you don't get points until 2008/2009 (a stripped contract), I don't see the point in buying resale unless maybe you don't want to travel until then, the dues are already paid for you by the seller, and you want to buy DVC now to lock in the price. I would still think it would make more sense to either buy direct and bank/rent the points, or wait until a loaded or standard (just has 2007 pts) contract comes along and buy that.

Both resales that I have had interest in (I bailed on the first because of my own financial issues) have come loaded with with no dues due on those extra points. I have no issue with paying 2007 dues, since my use year in this case will be September and I would have had to pay those dues through WDW direct anyhow. To me this is like buying in Sept 2006, free dues, and cheaper price/pt even w/out the free points.

If you are in a hurry, though, as said above, definitely do through WDW because resale does take 2 months minimum. I personally am willing to wait in order to get the best deal.

This is interesting. We are actually not in a hurry at all. In fact, I think our next trip will be Oct, 2008.

So, are we better off:

1) buying a stripped resale and negotiating down the price?
2) buying a resale with 2007 points and renting them?
3) buying direct and renting 2007 points?
4) another option i am missing?

I think you are better off with buying resale, and
1) renting any 2007 points, or
2) banking the 2007 points into 2008 to take a super-trip.

Whichever makes more sense to you financially. We are choosing to use our extra 2006 points rather than rent them.

You have to be careful with getting the price too low or it won't pas ROFR. I think based on listings, you could find a good contract for $83-85/pt that still had 2007 points and some even have 2006. You can always make an offer to the seller, and the TTS will keep you from going too low for WDW.

I just don't see the point of buying BWV direct from Disney if you don't need it right away or need the CC option.

Don't plan on purchasing and renting out points immediately. Renting points are a lot more work that a lot of new members even think about. If you don't plan on going until Oct 08, wait until next year to purchase.

If you purchase and have 2007 points and will not be going until 2008 you could bank 2007 and then if you dont use any or all of your 2008 bank them and keep banking until you go more than usual or get larger room or stay for a longer trip.
