Can we book DVC at Grand Californian yet?

the rooms that were converted in the hotel...are they open to rent yet?

They are not converting rooms at GCH like they did at Animal Kingdom. They are building a whole new wing. It is still under construction and is at least a year away from opening. Right now you can use your points for standard hotel rooms there, but they are not true DVC rooms.

I thought I had read back when they converted rooms...I don't know where I got that idea.
there is no way I would use points to book the room....50ish points a night is terrible...considering thats about 1/2 our whole week at WDW in a studio

Where did you get 50 points? The points for DVC studios will be less than the points for the current rooms because the current rooms are not DVC. I have a Friday night next month for 39 points in a standard hotel room at GCH. A weekday room would be 24 points in early June. The DVC studios should be less than that when they open.

I was looking at August points for the GCH.....one of the view rooms...don't remember now....and for Fri/Sat nights.....

39 pts for 1 night is still a lot too...but better.
we only spent 123 pts for a week at WLV this month in a studio...so its hard to justify 1/3 our points for 1 night...you know?

Again, they are not DVC rooms. When the DVC rooms open, they should be less. If you look at the Yacht Club on DVC points in June, it's 40 weekday and 72 weekend for standard view. You can't compare non-DVC resorts to DVC resorts.
