Can we avoid the goofy antics at 50's PT?

We love the antics and the food. The fried chicken is fantastic. I agree with the poster who said just talk to your server. We had a very nice lady who didnt chide us too much and talked about her experience working at Disney. And it was great fun to watch what all the other servers and families were doing! Cant wait to go back.

My last visit, with my godson (on his first trip out of Ohio), we were waited on by "cousin Stacey" who talk to my godson (age 7) about how she couldn't believe how big he'd gotten since the last time she saw him at the family reunion, etc. He just stared at her, not sure what to think. Then, as soon as she left, he said "Figures I'd just find out NOW that I have a cousin in Florida!" I didn't have the heart to tell him she wasn't really his cousin.

I have a wonderful picture of her hugging him (for the camera). She was the sweetest person. She gave me her email address so I could send her a copy of the picture.

We have reservations for December. You never know how "into it" your waiter will be, but I sure hope I'm not stuck next to any grumpy Gusses who moan & complain, because that's the WORST! I know you can ask for the theme to be ignored, and to be treated as if you're in a completely different restaurant. But it's too bad you can't ask to be seated in a jerk-free section, because I hate it when I'm set next to the couple who just complain about EVERYTHING.

Not that that would apply to anyone here, of course. :surfweb: Just mentioning my own pet peeve.

And the food is terrible to boot......

PTC is about the toughest ADR in DHS so I don't think many agree with you. I certainly don't. This is my one set in stone must do on every trip place. The food is wonderful. The pot roast is tender and delicious. I stole a piece of my (ex) girl friend's chicken and couldn't believe how good it was.
I think my favorite shtick they do is asking what color the soap is after someone goes to the bathroom. If you don't know, you're sent back to wash your hands.:rotfl:

When I was last there, I was a little disappointed that we got very little "antics show" from our server. Maybe because we were two women in our fifties he thought he did not need to do anything special?

I think if you just say to the server that you are there for the food, hopefully they would just let you eat.

I'll be honest, my dad and step-mom ate there a few years ago and didn't really like it. My dad is a pretty laid back guy and likes to act young and make jokes but didn't care for being 'reprimanded' or how hyper the server was.

DH is a very reserved, quiet person but he enjoys PTC. We've been at least a half dozen times and the teasing has never been over the top. Once, the server was not into his role--but it didn't stop us from enjoying the activity around us. Dh enjoys the PTC and the milkshakes and I enjoy the fried chicken (and THIS from a suthern' gal!) It's not a candles and linens sort of place:rotfl:

For the most part I don't know of any restaurant in WDW that is amazingly good....average American style food (except EPCOT of course) I find the "antics" at PT are charming and we enjoy it. My husband had to sing 'I'm a little tea pot' because he kept putting his elbows on the table and we laughed so hard at this. Here is a 6'2" 300lb shaved head, tatoo'ed man singing 'I'm a little tea pot':rotfl:. It's all in good fun and if this is not your thing then perhaps you should go to the Brown Derby instead, you might have a better meal experience there.

I agree. In fact, this is why our fav meal is always at WPE. Yeah out of all the food choices, our fav overall is WPE!

Love this place and the fun that surrounds it!!!! Only in Disney!! I get to be serious every day! I love a silly place where they fool around!

What kinda antics does this place have?....haha We have ressies there for Nov, & Ive never been & reading this threda is making me slightly nervous now.

Ok first and foremost.... the food is great and we love the antics but I think it just requires a certain type of sense of humor (no offense) which not everyone has! However, it is fun if you play back!

Second of all... if you don't want the vegetables or know you wont eat anything on the plate, ask for it without it.... the cook is happy to give you what you want. We are not huge fans of their veggies so we get them without to avoid the hassle we may get from the server... But, with that being said... you say no enough they will just slap you on the hand and walk away.

It is just meant to be like the 50's and they expect you to behave as you would've back then. You know all prim and proper at the dinner table, no elbows, set the table, clean your plate and don't mouth off. If you can't have fun with the people around you playing with the servers then you should either eat at the bar (which I have done before when I couldn't get in) or don't eat there. I would hate for you to have a bad experience because of this restaurant. It is all in good fun for sure. :goodvibes

It is one of our must-do's every trip. We have had over active servers and servers who really could care less so it is a crap shoot. We like having fun with them so much as we will push for a reaction.

But, you can eat at the bar. :thumbsup2

Things we've had happen:

Server handed us a basket with silverware and napkins and told us to set the table.
Absolutely no elbows on the table.
Server sang Happy Birthday to DS and when he got embarrassed, she got the whole restaurant to sing by yelling, "Hey everybody, it's cousin xxx's birthday, let's all sing."

I've heard a few other things, like eat your vegetables, etc, but we've never had that.

At our last visit DS (3) ordered his food, and then noticed that the kid at the table next to us got grapes with his meal. When our server returned, DS asked if he could have some grapes. Our wonderful server filled a large paper soda cup with grapes and put a top on it so he could have them to snack on all day.

We really like the food there. It is good old American comfort food--meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken pot pie.

I've never been, but my parents and siblings went last summer. So here's an example: My dad got the fried chicken and greens. He didn't like the greens and since he'd already been told to finish his vegetables, he tried to hide them under his chicken bones. But to no avail - the waitress picked up a forkful and fed them to him while making choo-choo noises. I wish I had seen that - the man is a police officer, not to mention a retired Master Chief in the Navy Reserve - being fed his greens via choo-choo. The rest of the family just about died laughing and called to tell me about it as soon as they returned to their room.

It's just goofy stuff like that. Nothing to be nervous about.

From my experience, the "eat your veggies", "elbows off the table" and (in my unfortunate experience) "feet off the furnature!" (I tend to tuck one foot under the other leg without even thinking about it) is mostly directed at adults. That seems to be what kids get such a kick out of in this place - their parents being told to behave, like THEY are children.

That's hysterical!!:lmao::l

My daughter hides green beans under her plate, just to provoke a reaction. And,..uh she's 27!:rotfl: This has been a favorite and never miss for my family. My DGKs already know to set the table, before they're asked. :goodvibes

Not trying to flame my opinion is you'll be bothered by others partaking in the antics.

Cancel the ressie and try for the Vine or Brown derby...

Goodluck with your planning!

DH and I just booked a lunch ressie for 50's PT. We have avoided this restaurant in the past because we are not interested in the whole cousin, aunt, grandma antics. Can we advise our server that we would appreciate a more subdued meal?

Honestly it isn't that bad. But we won't return to our girls are older. My 4 year old cried. She is a little sensitive when someone is scolding her and it isn't me. But once one dd started crying the both started it was the worst ever we couldn't enjoy the food. When my girls are older and get it then we will return. We are doing sci-fi this year.

We tried 50's PT for the first time last month and loved it. We had avoided it for years because I didn't think that I would be into the antics, and I wasn't sure what our boys would think - especially our pre-teens. (Our pre-schooler didn't pay much attention to our server.) I've never been to Ed Debevic's because I'm just not into it.

However, we really loved 50's and thought it was great fun. The food was very good - especially the pot pie and the wedge salad. And our waiter was a real ham - completely into the act. I was so glad that we didn't ask to tone it down because it was funny and completely comfortable. We're all in such a good mood at Disney and more receptive to that kind of act there, so I was surprised that we all enjoyed it so much. He broke character a few times and was really funny, nice guy both in and out of character. All the servers around us seemed to pick up on the guests' vibe immediately and responded accordingly.

Our entire family wanted to put it into the rotation for next trip, and we already booked our ADR for February!
