Can transferred points be borrowed?

I think if you are trying to transfer in borrowed points from someone else, can the other member borrow them first and then transfer them to you? Or can you only borrow points when making a reservation?

Again, I don't think you can do this, as I thought you could only transfer points from the current use year. My only question is if you borrow points, don't they become points in the current use year? My feeling is this is not allowed, but worth someone more knowledgeable chiming in.

No, borrowed points cannot be transferred and transferred points cannot be borrowed. The only way to borrow points is when making a reservation. If that reservation is later canceled, the points will be returned to the account, but cannot be banked or transferred.

Transferred points can be banked into the next Use Year however (still retaining their original Home Resort status and Use Year).

What does this mean exactly?:confused3

Transferred points can be "banked" into the next Use Year, however.
What's the banking window for points that have been transferred in? Presumably they are the banking window of the original use year, right?

Also, to the original question, can you transfer points for a future use year or just the current one? (And yes, I noticed that luckyman_apd thought that you could *not* do this)

Finally, if you can transfer points in for a future use year, can you borrow them to the current one? (And yes, I noticed that montrealdisneylovers said that you couldn't. But if luckyman_apd is correct, then the question doesn't even make sense because you couldn't have transferred points from a future use year.

DVC has allowed the banking of transferred points beyond their normal deadline. However, that could be stopped at any time.

Transfers may be made from the current Use Year and the next Use Year. A member could make two transfers with one phone call to MS.

Transferred points cannot be borrowed and borrowed points cannot be transferred.

So, I could transfer 2012 points into my account even though we are in the 2011 UY? But if I did transfer 2012 points in, they can't be used until my 2012 UY correct? They could not be borrowed to use now. This is my understanding right not after reading here.

The banking part is the interesting part though. Now here comes the real interesting question, since UY are different among members. If I transfered in 100 points from a Feb UY, but my UY is June, the points would be 2012 pts, since we are in Feb, but since my 2012 pts don't become active until June, am I prevented from using these points until June? If I can use them now, does that mean if I bank them would they be only good through Jan 31 2014? or would they be good till May 31, 2014 like my own points?

It really makes you think. The whole UY thing is a monkey wrench.

2012 points would be transferred into a 2012 UY. 2013 points would be transferred into a 2013 UY.

For example, I have 22 Dec 2011 points that I may want to use in October 2012(that would be my Dec 2011 UY). I also have points in Sept. So for an Oct 2012 trip, I might transfer my Dec 2011 points (22 points) into my Sept 2011 UY. I have no points in my Sept 2011 UY because I used them all. So I would make a reservation in Oct 2012 with Sept 2012 points and Dec 2011 points that would be transferred into my Sept 2011 account.

They keep their UY and resort when they are transferred.

They can be used based on the specific Use Year for the transferred points - independent of your Use Year. If you have a June Use Year and accept a transfer of points from another member's February, 2012 Use Year, those points could be used right now without borrowing.

Ok, thanks. We have good friends with 270 AKV points. I can definitely see a future occurrence of us transferring in points from them. They have a June UY as well, so the use year part is a non issue in this scenario. We have discussed possible point swaps with them in the future as they have never stayed at BLT. We plan on banking our 2013 (125)points, but instead, we may transfer them to our friends, and have them transfer 125 of their 2014 AKV points back to us in exchange. This way they could get a chance to book BLT in the 11 month window. We have no interest in AKV (don't get me wrong I hear it's nice, be we like to be closer to the parks) but some trips we will stay at other resorts, and if we can't book till 7 months out anyway, it doesn't matter where the points come from.
