Some friends and I are talking about renting a Grand Villa at OKW (my home) during Adventure Season, December 2006. I don't have enough points in my own account, and don't want to borrow from 2007, so we're talking about buying and having points transferred to my account.

I would want to make the reservation as soon as possible, so that would be January 2006. I assume any points transferred to my account would be from the 2005 Use Year. Can I bank these points to use in December 2006? Or would the transferer have to bank them before transferring them to me?

I also believe that any points transferred to my account would have to be for OKW so I can use them the 11 month window, but correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Any advice, guidance, suggestions would be appreciated.

According to the rules, you can bank transferred points but can not transfer banked points. These are rules that they seem to hold fast to.

Regarding whether they have to be from OKW is subject to DVC computers. To play it safe you should get them from a OKW owner. But in the past points transferred into another resorts account have taken on the new identity of that resort. This isn't supposed to happen though according to the rules (It happened to me). Play it safe and get OKW points.

Thanks, HBC. It sounds like we should get our dates finalized and start working on getting more points for the trip.

DISboards was smart enough to display a link to this thread too, which provided some additional information.

There also appears to be a rule about not having more than three years worth of points in your account at a given time. I'm not clear on that, perhaps someone with more knowledge....

I have actually banked transfer points in each fo the past two use years. Essentially they are a free pass, as you can bank as many of them as you want, provided you can bank any points in your account (ie not after 25% deadline, but any time prior).

Also, just to reinforce HBC's post, you cannot transfer banked points at all.

I would also agree that you should aim for OKW points if at all possible to play it safe on the 11 month thing. According to the folks in MS, the pts I had transferred in went into our BWV account, but it remains to be seen if we can use them at 11 months out for that resort.

As for Crisi's mention about no more than three years' worth of points in the account at any time, I cannot say; we have nearly 500 points, and have never hit the three years' worth of points level thru transfer, banking and borrowing; the biggest transfer we've ever received was 300 points (most of which were then banked into our next UY). I would imagine the 3 yrs pts rule would make it tough for those with small contracts (esp sub-150 pts levels).

I am happy to answer any transfer questions from my own experience.

Just one thing to add. You can have 06 points transferred even if you're in your 05 timeframe (like someone with an Oct. UY month) and you can bank them into 07 but you cannot borrow them for use in 05. So the rule is that you cannot borrow transferred points.
