I read on these boards very recently that people have spotted gators on park and resort premises. Is that for real or is somebody just pulling our collective legs?

We are going with friends in a few days-We are at the Yacht Club, they are at Beach Club Villas.I read that someone spotted one or more gators in this vicinity.

Can anyone give me the skinny on gators?

Thank you very much.

In Dec 2001 there was a gator in the water around Tom Sawyer's Island, which was closed for refurbishment. They pointed him out to use on the Liberty Belle.

Yes, there are gators that live in the canal that runs past the BCV. (among other places around WDW) They've been there for years but are nowhere near the guests, and pretty much do their own thing. You do not need to worry. The gators will not be hanging around Stormalong Bay or anything.

I've never seen any around the parks, except for on Splash Mountain and Peter Pan's Flight. ;)

I one saw a baby gator at the Coronado Springs Resort.

Well, we've seen them in some of the canal areas and at Tom Sawyers Island. That's why I don't let my dd even wade in the lakes!! You're in Florida, that's where they live. Can't get around it!!! Now, let's talk about the snakes in the water parks!!! That's what bothers me.....just floating along in a lazy river, in my trusty innertube...when bam....along comes a nice ole snake underneath me. I know they're harmless but man, that would take 20 years off my life.

I am sorry but that struck me totally hilarious. I mean I would react the same way too but its just how you said it. I almost fell out of my chair

Now I have this mental picture of me floating down the lazy river at BB next weekend, hanging out with the snakes! I don't think I will tell the rest of my family, as I will never get them in there! Thanks for the warning!!

When we go to SoG, there are two ponds that have a gator in them. My brother went for the 1st time in 20 some years and saw one from the bus as we were going to one of the parks.

And Yes, this is Florida, so you can expect to see the unexpected when it comes to wildlife.

They have alligators in Florida??
Who would have known?

Uh, you and me both... except now I don't know how I'll get MYSELF in there... knowing there are snakes! Our water parks in Texas somehow manage to keep the snakes out of the lazy river...

Don't go golfing at WDW if you don't want to see gators. DH regularly sees them at the courses. And a couple years ago, when he was at LBV, they had a "snake alert" Seems it had rained so much that the snakes were coming out of their holes. And he wonders why I don't golf!

It's Florida! Of course gators find their way to the waters in WDW. When they do, from what I understand, they are relocated to water that is not near guest areas.

Gators I can deal with! We live with them on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. You don't bother them - they don't bother you!! And, generally speaking, they are rather shy - generally!;)

Now snakes - that is another matter all together!!! I HATE snakes!!! They scare the begeebeez out of me (whatever that is!)!!! No more trips down the lazy river for this chic!!!!

I HATE snakes too! But has anyone ACTUALLY seen a snake in any of the people water areas??? I have huge goosebumps just thinking about this. And it's going to be "wicked" hot next week - I want to go swimming - but not with snakes!! Now, I'm whining, sorry! :teeth:

While I'm at it, alligators are not cool or cute. I lived in Fort Myers for 4 years. We constantly had alligators removed from our lakes (the size of a good rain puddle up here in Mass. ;) ). There were always stories of missing pets and even golfers who were eventualy found in some gator's stomach. Yuck!!! ALLIGATORS ARE DANGEROUS!! DO NOT FEED THEM!! :earseek:

Saw 2 snakes last time at Typhoon Lagoon...one on the walkway just near the entrance to one of the slides and the other sunning itself just beside the lazy river. They seemed small and harmless.

Hearing about the gator sightings didn't really bother me, but I'm totally freaking out about the snakes. YUCK!!!
