I booked a room in April at the Royal Pacific for $274/night. I called back today to see if there were any better rates, as the person who initially took my reservation said to call back a few months later to see if any discounts came out. They said that the rates are now $330/night. Is that the case?

Is there any way I can carve some bucks off of my nightly rate?

I worked in the hotel business for many years, and yes this is very possible. It's very much supply and demand. The price will almost always be higher when they have fewer rooms to sell. Of course a promotion may be thrown out there, but it will normally say based upon availability and if they are already scheduled for a high occupancy for your stay, it may not apply for that time However, that being said, I would continue to follow up, as people will cancel opening up more rooms and more discounts Good luck!!

Aside from AAA, are there other types of discounts I should look for?

April is high season and rates are usually high too. You can ask if there are any obstructed view rooms as those will be cheaper.

We are looking for onsite hotels as well for April. I was amazed at how expensive it is. There is no Triple a rooms as well....The cheapest room was 274$ I am hoping for a discount!

When you look at prices for April, they compare quite favourably to the Disney Deluxe hotels that are within walking distance of the parks. This is what you need to use for your comparison.

Yacht Club is $540/night
Contemporary is $445
Beach Club and Boardwalk are $475
Grand Floridian is $575
Poly is $645
Even Coronado Springs which isn't a deluxe or within walking distance is $204

Remember that by staying onsite you will get unlimited express passes and early entry which will be invaluable during this month.

Oh well, just thought I'd ask. It is going to be a great trip. We are starting with a Disney cruise and then finishing at Universal.

My AAA travel agent was able to get a room for me at RPR for 4/6 and 4/7 for $259/night today (including tax). I'm not sure what she did to get it, but I was very greatful. I'm incredibly cheap myself, and Universal told me every time I called for 2 days that $304/night (not including tax) was absolutely the cheapest thing available. I was going to pay it, but was kind of sick about it. $259 isn't much cheaper, but at least it's something.

The price on the website is $279/night. $259 for AAA would be about right.

Hi- I am in Knoxville, too! We are going to Universal after a Disney cruise in June....you will have to report back after your April trip and let me know how it was! I had a room booked at RPR thru AAA, too, then the military rates for HRH were released, so I switched. We can't wait!!!!

I've been on two, although it's been several years because I just keep going back to Disney World It was definitely one of the best cruises I've ever been on though. And I'll definitely report back on my Universal trip. I haven't been there in several years, but my cousin's marching band is going to play there, so I figured it was a good time to go back. I'm kind of super excited about it.

Yep, we are really excited! We have done WDW several times and thought we would try something new next summer. BTW, marching band sounds like a great excuse to visit!

Because Universal only has the 3 Deluxe on site it seems expensive when compared to Pop or CSR. I have never stayed Disney Deluxe because of the sticker prices. Did stay at RPR this summer and enjoyed it. Still paying off that credit card though.

There may be discounted rates during the time you're looking for but promotions are not released this far out. If you want to book now just in case that's fine. Remember, as prices drop, you can always have your rate adjusted.
