Can this be right? No hold at AKL?

I'm trying to ensure we have enough room on the 'ol credit cards for everything we want to do. We'll be staying at AKL for two nights, of which one has already been paid as a deposit.

So I called AKL directly and asked, in addition to the second night charge, how much the "hold" was on our credit card while we're there. The front desk lady said there was no hold, only the second night charge.

Can this be true? I travel a lot and there's always a hold for incidentals.

That's right, they only use your credit card if you request to be able to charge back to your room for purchases in the parks, restaurants, etc. We have often just paid cash at the end of our stay for any incidentals and not used our room key to charge to the room. We have also given X dollars in cash to put on our account to use our room key to charge in the parks. Did I make that clear as mud?!
