We (me, DH, DD5 & DS2) are going to Disney in February (Whoohoo!! 21 days). After our park stay we are doing a 4 day cruise. We just found out that DCL does not pick up at any of the Value resorts - we are staying at the Pop. So our TA set up our transfers at The Swan & Dolphin. No problem, we'll take a cab over to the Swan. My SIL has a family of 5 and does not want to take a cab. She thinks that the bus from Pop that takes you to DTD will take her, her family and all of their luggage to DTD where she will then go to Saratoga Springs and get on the shuttle for the ship. Is this doable? I thought the buses wouldn't take luggage. And how far is Saratoga Springs from DTD? I'm assuming it's not walking distance, especially with luggage! Does any of this make sense?

I think your TA might be wrong. We just got back from the All Star Music and the cruise line was picking people up there. I would call Disney and find out more info.

SSR is near DtD but I would not attempt to walk to it with luggage and children in tow. And I don't think that you would be able to board a bus for DtD with a full load of luggage for a family.

Have you and your SIL considered getting a towncar service to tranfer all of you in a passneger van? It would probably be less expensive than Disney's transportation and the towncar service will pick you up at POP, so there would be no need to take cabs or buses anywhere,

There is no way that your sis & her family are going to be able to walk from DTD to Saratoga Springs with luggage in tow. Has she ever walked that route before?

When I cruised a few years ago we were picked up at AK but then we stayed at CBR and they took our luggage from there we only took our carry ons and they stored athem at AK for the morning. I'd call Disney and find out.

I'm pretty sure that she called Pop, and they said the same thing, that DCL does not pick up at the Values. But it will be worth it if I call and double check. A Passanger Van would be great, but I failed to mention that there are 5 other people with SIL (my brother in law, his family and my MIL.) So I'm thinking that not even a passenger van will carry us all. Since we are just going from one resort to another, is a town car service a good way to go? I figured a cab would be cheaper.

So there are 14 of you total? DCL transfers to and from the port are $70 per person, so for 14 people, $980 round trip.

We booked a van with FL Tours for 7 people for our cruise in October for $260 round trip (Boardwalk to Port Canaveral and then back to AKL after the cruise).

So even if you needed 2 vans, it would still only be $520 for the round trip (disney to port to airport OR disney to port to disney, depending on what you are doing), and the vans would pick everyone and their stuff up at Pop.

I've been told by 2 TA's that DCL drops off at the Values, but doesn't pick up.

Our transfers are included, so we would only need to pay for a cab. I conidered having a car take us straight to the port, but that would run us $150 a van. We would need 2 for the whole group.

I'm confused...You stayed at CBR, but had to go to AK (or AKL?) to get the shuttle? Who took your luggage to AK? Did you take a cab to AK, or take a resort bus?

From what my TA has been telling me our transfers are included. I thought there was a fee for DCL transfers too.

Technically yes, there are 14 people in our group (there are actually a few more, but they aren't staying at Pop. But I have a felling that we will be taking a cab and SIL (and her party of 10) will be doing God knows what! She does not want to pay $$ for even a cab. So we'll probably be taking a cab to the Swan & Dolphin (that's how all of our transfers are set up right now). She wants to try to take the resort bus to DTD. She is not a member of the DIS and has no idea what a bad idea this is!

Transfers would have been included in your quote if you did not specify you did not want them, but you can opt out of them and save $70 per person. I think the only exception is if you book airfare through DCL, then they include them.

I do not think she will be allowed to get on the DTD bus with luggage to be honest with you. I don't think the regular buses allow you to carry multiple suitcases on board. Even ME makes you put most of it under the bus, and the regular buses do not have that capability.

Disney will transfer luggage between resorts for you, but if you took it there in the morning, I think the transfers are done at like 1 pm or something, so it would not make it there in time to get it on the DCL bus. I think you would have to turn it over the day before.

We stay at Saratoga often. DH crabs when we have to carry shopping bags back from DTD. Dragging luggage for 10 people would be a nightmare. If she is hell bent on doing it, let her do it. Take the cab, go to the Swan, get on the bus, go to the port and get yourself a nice beverage for the sail away party while she drags her stuff around SSR (if she even makes it there). :goodvibes You tried to warn her. I don't think there is much else you can do.

LOL! I like that picture!

She is just fed up. My MIL's husband is canceling because of health reasons. Our TA is telling her that she never booked insurance for him, so he's SOL on getting $$ back for the cruise. She has no record of the insurance either way. So she's dealing with all of that and now the transfers too. To me, taking the cab is no big deal. For her with a family of 6 (including MIL) she's thinking she'll have to pay for 2 cabs. Seriously, I'd pay for the stinkin cabs and not worry about it anymore!

I hear ya. I try to save $$ where I can, but when it comes to price versus ease and stress, the easy way wins every time!!! :)

I have to add someone to our cruise for October. My sister decided to join us. She does it every year, I should have just booked for her to begin with. :lmao:

Family...gotta love 'em.

Have a great trip, no matter what happens. She may surprise you and take one look at all the luggage and the line for the DTD bus and say "we'll take the cabs." :goodvibes

Thanks for the advice! I didn't think the resort buses could accomidate luggage. I think she's thinking Disney will handle the luggage. With tht many transfers - from Pop, to SS to the DCL bus... that's just asking to get luggage lost.

The year before ME started, DD and I took the LYNX pubic buses from the airport in Orlando to the Ticket and transportation center in Disney and then used a Park bus(MGM) to transfer to the Pop bus. We each had a medium suitcase and a small purse or back pack. We had no trouble boarding any of the Disney nor public buses.

We did the reverse of this at the end of our week vacation.
