Originally we planned on booking our stay at Wilderness Lodge since it is our home and then switching to the Boardwalk at 7 months. We are going for the marathon weekend and want to stay at Boardwalk since it is closest to Epcot. Here is the question. Our friends are DVC members who are also going down for marathon weekend and their home is the Boardwalk. Can we transfer points to him and have him book us a room at 11 months? Also, our use year is August. Can we borrow points today and transfer them to him to book our room? We think it is possible but thought I'd check with DIS'ers. Thanks for your help.:wizard:

I have heard of it working in the past but officially the answer would be no because the points transferred would keep their original home and year.

Borrowed or banked points cannot be transferred, but transferred points can be borrowed or banked.

If you are running in the marathon or half, you still have to take a bus to the start line from BW. The park isn't open (at that end) for the start.

OKW is the best DVC to stay at for marathoners. You can walk to the start from OKW.

Your VWL points will still be VWL points, even if you transfer them to a BWV owner.

Even if it were, it's a 10 -15 minute walk to the front gate. NOt sure I would want to start off marathon day with a long walk, LOL.

Shouldn't be a problem getting OKW for that time if you call right at 7 months.

And then another 10-15 minutes walk from the front of the park to the race start.

Note that officially, everyone is required to take Disney tranportation to the start of the race. Considering that Disney transportation gets you to the race hours ahead of time, many marathoners perfer stating at OKW and "illegially" walking over.

I'm not concerned with getting to the start of the race (we will drive). We were thinking because we will be with about 10 runners (and families) that since the end of the race runs through Boardwalk it would be nice to stay there (in case some don't want to go to the finish line). We thought there would be more to do at the Boardwalk on Sat after the 1/2 too.

Last year we tried to book about 7 months out (when hubby decided to run) and there was not DVC room of any size available at any DVC hotel. We were put on the waitlist but it never came through.

Thanks for your help.:yay:
