We are still considering booking a trip for free dining over Labor Day weekend. Our kids start school on 8/26 but have 8/29 and 9/1 off. I would like to fly down late on 8/28 and home on 9/2 so they only miss one day of school so early in the year. On the disney website for the dates of 8/28 - 9/2 it only shows availabilty at SSR or OKW in a 2BR (too expensive!). If we were to book 8/28 - 9/3, POR shows up. Can I book through the 3rd and later just cancel off that night? Would this mess up the reservation/free dining part? Thanks for the information!

I have 3 kids, 2 teens and a toddler. My sister has 3 also. She is always concerned with her kids missing school, I have never been concerned. On average, my kids miss 2 - 3 days a year being sick. I dont think that 4th or 5th day off would have any impact on their studies or sporting events. In the long run, my kids will remember the incredible Disney trip much more than they will remember going to school and what they learned on 09/02/08. You can not teach being with family, laughing, having fun and just plain being happy. Take them to Epcot on the extra day and teach them about the world!

My mother took my oldest 2 to NYC for three days during the week a few years ago. They went to 2 Broadway shows, SoL, ESB skating at RC etc...You can never get that experience in school. Sometimes life experience is much more valuable.

Go to POR for all the days..make some memories.

The answer to your original question is, yes. I just did this today. On line I could only get a ressie for longer than I needed:confused3

I booked it and then proceeded to call and cancel the days not needed. No problems.

Thanks to those on the DIS for giving me this advice on another thread. I would have never been able to get the dates/resort I wanted without this advice.

When I called today the CM told me that there was nothing available for the dates I wanted. Went on line and voila! :stir: booked it myself.

Just a little more info - we have been to Disney several times. The kids have missed days of school for trips; I just hate for them to miss them so early in the school year - only the second week of school (6th, 4th and kindergarten) Thanks again!
